Default BB believes the press clippings

I hate to pile on, especially since I was until recently an "In Bill we truster", but in my opinion his ego has got the best of him.Problem: D-Line can't generate a pass rush. Solution: Trade Seymour, cut Warren and don't address the issue in the draft. Problem: Safety play sucks. Solution: cut your two most experienced safeties and although they sucked, they were better than we have now. Problem: DB's stink. Solution: Knowing Dowling was going on IR, cut Bodden so that we are left w/ two ufa's that are terrible and we have no depth.
I think BB believes he is a genius and he could coach these bums up and teach them his scheme. Well he couldn't and the D is putrid. Not average, not below average, PUTRID. The truth is plain to see. Like all coaches, the better players he has the smarter he becomes. Give him crappy players, like he has done to himself via lousy drafting and fa acquisitions, and he can do no more with them than any average coach in the league could do.
Brady and the O may take this team to the playoffs, if he does it will be in spite of BB
not because of him. If, in next April's draft I hear, The Patriots have traded out of the first round for a second rounder and a first in 2013, I'm going to blow a gasket. The Patriots need quality players, BB is not the coach he believes he is. I'm embarrassed for him when I watch this defense. Rant over.

I firmly believe that Belichick is one of the most insecure coaches in the NFL. Just look at the way he handles his interviews and press conferences - he's uncomfortable in his own skin. Some of the most successful leaders, like BB, are ones that are constantly motivated by their insecurities or a general fear of failure. I don't see ego ever being an issue with Belichick...but you're probably on to something with the overall decline in the Patriots talent pool. It's really that simple, no need to look for other reasons or excuses.

BB has become a Pete Carroll/Rick Pitino hybrid.......can't sit still personnel-wise, and more disturbingly, literally had the look of confusion during the game yesterday.......

Add in the post game presser BB belches into the microphone (he's good for 2 or 3 of those a presser), and the "Gotta coach better, Gotta play better" BS why even bother with the presser or the EEI interview on Mondays for that matter.

After one of these games, the press should all get together and unite one of these times and not even go into the press room after the game, simply stay out of the room and have BB walk into an empty room, that would be priceless.

I would also love for someone to confront him on his draft and FA blunders in front of the microphone with the cameras on him (C'mon Tommy Curran you can do it). I just want to 1. see the look on his face and 2. actually hear his response.

I'll actually answer it for him:

"Gotta draft better, Gotta pick FAs better"

Trying to psychoanalyze Bill Belichick is one of the most pointless endeavors known to man.

This thread reeks of hypocrisy. So, Belichick is supposedly the insecure one with mental issues; yet, after a whopping 2 losses (despite still being tied for 1st) we have so many people who think that the above is a valid excuse to make ad hominem attacks? LOL. You'll go back to worshiping him once he rattles off a few more wins and you have Lombardi's glistening in your eyes once again.

Also, the "press clippings" have been overtly critical since the last playoff loss, so even at face value this thread fails...

I suspect Belichick has acid reflux disorder ("GERD") a condition that is exacerbated by stress. Thus the belching. On this I'm pretty sympathetic, I get it myself sometimes and it's not a fun thing - one of the "joys" of becoming an old fart.

-----

Somehow I don't think he would be too unhappy in the empty press room scenario, but I get your point, it is so frustrating to hear the same old vagueries time and again. I used to make sure to watch the 5th Quarter and hear his Monday interview. I gave that up a long while ago because there just isn't enough there to warrant tuning in - and if there was, I'd find it out here on this forum.

-----

In terms of what BB chooses to say to the media, I keep going back to something that I heard a caller say on WEEI not too long ago, which is that the one thing he avoids is saying anything that can be construed as critical of a specific player or coach, either on his team or another team. Can you think of very many examples of him calling anyone out, I can't.

Regarding his team I think this is because calling out some individual or small group of individuals (for example, the offensive line) rather than the team as a whole runs counter to his belief about winning requiring a full team effort. Lots of coaches say they believe in that, but don't always practice what they preach. Good for him for acting in accordance with that principle.

Regarding other teams, I think this is also an example of BB choosing to follow certain principles, but perhaps just as much I think it is because he sees no actual competitive advantage of singling out individuals in a negative way. There have been a couple of cases where he has deviated from this (the Pittsburgh safety, I don't remember his name, and Charlie Casserly, those are the two examples I can recall), but again I think he is very careful to not add fuel to the fire.

-----

To the larger issue raised in the opening post, I really don't think the issues for the Pats are a matter of BB's ego getting in the way. He has been noted for frequently reaching out to other coaches to pick their brains about football, so I don't see him as someone who simply feels he has it all figured out. I don't think he ignores the opinions of others in the organization either. I don't buy that he has now surrounded himself by only weak yes-men types - for example, he has Ernie Adams and Floyd Reese whom I suspect are pretty frank with him when they have differing opinions, and I can't imagine they are the only two people that are empowered to do so. My sense of Bob Kraft is that he would not permit the organization to not have such empowerment. The truth is that even in the best of times, it was never just Belichick, it was everyone all together. I not only suspect BB would be the first one to say that, I believe I have actually heard him say it many times, so I don't see his ego as being the problem.

Off-topic, weren't you the guy who was fired up about Dominique Rogers-Cromartie? Not to stir that one up, but boy he would look pretty good in red, white, and blue rather than green ...

This whole forum has become an embarrassment. I almost wish the team would lose more so we could weed the fan base back to a group that has a clue about life before Bill.

Wow, you really have quite the memory. Yes DRC was my hero coming out of the Senior Bowl, I actually wanted BB to draft DRC with #10 and Curtis Lofton in Round 2 (would have only required a small deal up for Lofton - which we all know is something BB hates to do). Instead he drafted Mayo and Terrence Wheatley. Call me crazy, but I think DRC and Lofton would have been the direction to go in. Don't ya think?

I said it many times, even if the Pats win one or two more Superbowls, it will be in spite of BB and it will be the result of the one of the greatest QBs in history, not because of this pompous arse. Again Tom Brady made BB, I will never believe it was the other way around.
