Just learned that Peyton Hillis was a Bronco and Josh McDaniels traded Peyton Hillis to the Cleveland Browns for Brady Quinn (a Notre Dame product and Charlie Wiess prodigy).
Mangini and Holmgren hoodwinked the Broncos big time on this one and the Patriots got screwed on Sunday.
Meanwhile the Jets narrowly beat a poor Bronco team without Peyton Hillis and struggled to beat a mediocre Detriot team.
We will have to beat either Pittsburgh or Indianapolis plus beat the Jets, Dolphins, Bills and two of three of the NFC teams to assure ourselves of a playoff spot. I can see one 11 and 5 AFC team getting frozen out of the playoffs due to the AFC west being horrible and only three or four stong NFC teams (Giants, Saints, Falcons, and Eagles, perhaps you can put Green Bay in here also).
We have to hope Cleveland can step up and beat the Jets, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Indianapolis to cancel out our loss there. If they can do it, then we know they were going to be good anyway and the shame will go away.

McDaniels is also the moron that traded a future first rounder to select Alphonso Smith at #5 in the second, gave up on him after a year, and then traded him for Gronkowski's brother Dan from the Lions. Alphonso has brokeout with 30 tackles, 5 ints, and 8 pass deflections already this year. Gronkowski hasn't done anything in Denver. I wonder if Josh traded for Dan because the Patriots picked up the other Gronk? He was stupid enough to select an injured WR that can't run routes and then trade up and take Tim Tebow, so I wouldn't put it past him.

Was juuust about to bring up Smith. Cutler, Scheffler and Marshall too.

You know, I felt bad for Josh last year when the media, especially the NFLN crew, were ripping him over Cutler and then the Marshall fiasco. I thought, well, give the guy a chance to get "his guys" in place. But it's hard to defend a lot of his decisions at this point. The whole Alphonso Smith situation - -what a total fiasco.
Anyway, hoping Hillis keeps up the good work this week, and the Browns have some energy left for their coach's other former team.

Hillis is a throwback. He's not flashy, but if you need tough yards, he's the guy you want with the football in his hands.
Cleveland made out like bandits in that deal... and I'm a Quinn fan.

It used to kill me the way Quinn was called "Brady" on TV, back around the time he was drafted especially. I mean, it's annoying enough that Manning is "Peyton" -- at least he has a brother in the league and a certain status.

Me too.
Some players over the years have earned the right to be referred to by their first name only. Brady Quinn wasn't one of those guys.

I've tried so hard to give McDaniels the benefit of the doubt, because frankly I think it benefits the Belichick mystique to have another coach hit on his own.
That said, McDaniels has made questionable move after questionable move. To his credit, the Orton plus two firsts for Cutler deal seems to be a win for Denver at this point; however he's had far too many misses and not enough hits.
The Smith deal, I'll never for the life of me understand that one. You give up a first to get in position to draft a guy. You get said player, then trade him after one year for what? A 3rd string TE?
It's moves like that which have McDaniels on the hot seat.
