Default Parcells turns down Saints

Bill Parcells has turned down the offer to coach the Saints, according to Chris Mortensen.

I realize this belongs in the NFL Forum rather than in this forum, but I figure I would place his here since it's the off-season and Pats news is pretty slow right now.

I didnt think he would do it for a year, he may have designs on hooking up with another team for one of his classic rebuilds.

I'm pretty sure he just wants to get into the HoF and call it good. And why not, the guy deserves it.

Not surprised but a little disappointed. It would have been fun to see the Big Tuna in The Big Easy.

Call me crazy but I am guessing this has more to do with how The Tuna perceives his chances to actually win in one season vs the investment of time. I bet the HOF had something to do with it but I betting if he truly thought he could win a SB with this team he would go for it. I think his biggest fear might be player suspensions.

At every head coaching job Parcells has accepted the team had virtually nowhere to go but up. After a 13-3 season the Saints have virtually nowhere to go but down. I can't help but wonder if a potential dropoff by New Orleans in 2012 played a part in Parcells' decision, with him thinking about how it could affect his legacy; people would no longer be able to write about how he turned around (or at least improved) every franchise he became head coach of in the NFL.

I think Parcells is content with hanging around the track..

No easy upside with a winning franchise
No way to "pick the groceries" in a 1 year deal
No way to re-shape the D (from 4:3 to 3:4) or the team as a caretaker
Major downside to legacy if things fall apart which is quite possible
Much more work, long days and late nights than retirement
What's a couple million more to someone late in life who already has millions?
And the biggest reason is that the 5 year hiatus required for the ego stroking HOF starts again in 2013

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

I'm not surprised. The man is 71 years old.

What more can he try to accomplish?

He'll never catch Bill B.

Tuna does love his Saratoga enough to live there - at this time in his life, the decision he made is a no brainer for him....
