- He's a great value at #7.
- He's a badly needed backup for Wilfork.
- He can play DE for us although he's shorter than desired.
- He can play a decent amount in passing and short yardage downs.
Between rotating in to give the starters a break, passing downs and short yardage he'd get plenty of snaps. And, right now, God help us if Wilfork has a serious injury.
Of course, he could also be a beast the moment he steps on the field, a guy you simply have to play because he's better than what you've got.

If that's who you actually think will be drafted, then putting Albert at #7 messes up your whole board, no?
Not that anyone's asked, but I think Albert will be the Pats first pick at #7 or in a slight trade down. If we have an opportunity of exceeding the value of Albert by trading down further (teens-twenties), IMO it will be for a defensive player.
The Gosselin pick of Ellis is disappointing in that he's one of two players I don't want at #7. Rivers is the other. It's obvious to me he chose Ellis based strictly on his own #5 ranking. He clearly doesn't get the fact that value for Belichick is defined by players who not only fit the system, but fill a need and play a role. IMO, the selection of Ellis is clearly a consensus ranked pick, which strays away from the Pats philosophy.
...the Williams pick clearly indicates Gosselin has heard something, mighty interesting.
Well, when Gosselin has Williams ranked #20 and Clady ranked #9, I'd think personal preference is involved.
"What we want to try to do is maximize each spot on the roster; we want to be stronger at No. 1 than the opponent, stronger at No. 25 than they are, and stronger at No. 53 than they are, we're always looking to upgrade the talent level on the team, and play together to be functional."

FWIW, there's been a rumor floating around that the Patriots might select a D-linemen early this year, and then try to unload Seymour via trade.
The problem w trying to trade Seymour is that a) I have a feeling that if he's healthy for a season, we see him return to form and b) right now, you wouldn't be getting fair value for him...I'd hate to see that happen.
But I'm becoming open to Ellis. He wouldn't be just a backup, this team rotates its DLine a lot, and implements sub packages that takes Wilfork off the field. He'd get plenty of snaps, and it would give them some good leverage and options when it comes time for Wilfork and Seymour to either re-sign or move on.
Still, Red Bryant in the 2nd round might achieve all that as well for a fraction of the price.
