Default One Thing I don't Understand About Belichick's drafts.

Okay ... this thread is personal and selfish ... but I'm looking for some feedback on this issue. If someone can set my mind straight perhaps
I get over this issue ... I'll be sad but I will live on.

Belichick loves big-butt blocking TE's. he won't overpay for them but he loves to have at least one. Every year I look for a big fat butt FB to line up in our backfield because I figure Belichick ... old school football coach would love to have a road grader back there ... but he never picks one.

Okay ... he doesn't want to waste a draft pick on one ... good enough for me I guess
but hey BILL ... HOW ABOUT SIGNING ONE AS A FA???

Here is my wish list ... unless someone can cure me of this FB OCD problem.
and eexplain why Belichick likes Big-butt TE's but not big-butt FB's to protect Tom and block for LoMo.

1 - Owen Schmitt - 6'2" - 247 - 4.65 - this guy would have to be drafted ... maybe as high as round 5 so he's just a dream.

2 - Jerome Felton FB (5'11", 242, 4.639)
This guy is mean ... delivers a good punch and has great hands BILL!!!
he is an excellent short-yardage runner, a tough blocker and a dependable receiver out of that backfield. That versatility should make him a late-round pick. BILL ...COULD YOU SPARE THE 6TH FOR THIS GUY I know ... fah-get-a-bout-it

3 - NO DRAFT PICK NEEDED FOR :

Michael Cox FB (6'0", 257, 4.7)
... good blocker and pass catcher ... very mean!!!

Jed Collins FB (6'1", 244, 4.9)
... Jed can be a backup LB or TE ... good ST'er.

Doug Jones FB (6'3", 275, 4.9)
... THIS GUY CAN LONG SNAP ... sorry Lonnie...
Understands the importance of positioning and does a solid job of sealing defenders. Aggressive when goes low and is an effective cut blockers that can knock defenders off of their feet. Has experience lining up at tight end and is versatile.

Would it be too much to ask for Bill to bring this guy in as a FA? I think Maroney would love him!!!

Okay ... pick one or cure me of my FB OCD problem.

I like D. Jones size and plus he's versatile - a BB requirement.

I think the rules of the game and the skills of the players dictate the style of the offense. Now BB likes football players, and having TEs on the roster makes you more versitile than fullbacks. We are not so much a "point of attack" running team. We do screens that use our OL and TE as lead blockers. They are closer to the line of scrimmage, and move laterally better than FBs.
There are some games where weather dictates that we grind it out, so having a guy like Evans on the roster is a MUST even if we list him as a FB. Besides the fact that alot of our runs now are centered around a guy named Welker, who is a running game substitute while keeping the defense honest.

A Redskins fan actually made the claim--and it's not as far-fetched as it sounds--that after Brady, Wes Welker is the key to the offense:

Quote:
I’ve circled the “suicide blocker” (who gets his block) and Fletcher…who got owned by Wes freakin Welker: . . .

So now the Patriots have established a running game and can go to Play Action. But that’s not all they’ve established…they also have gotten Welker established as a legit lead blocker, and the defense knows if Welker is comming in to block, they better hurry up and attack downhill to get to the running back. Bellicheck exploits this as well:
So he's not only used as an augment to the running game, he actually helps make the running game better.

The FB is utilized so rarely in the Pats offense that its not really worth drafting. It looks like Heath Evans is good enough for BB. Tight ends however are a different matter. Can almost guarantee that BB will draft a new one. Particularly since he cut Kyle Brady.

BB one took 2 TE's in 1 draft. Both were losers however.

There is no doubt that BB will know as much about Carlson as he has ever known about a TE thanks to Weiss. And unless Carlson was dogging it in the 40 at the combine, he is not worth a day #1 pick.

The best blocking TE I have seen in this draft is Stevens of Cal and he is not in the same zip code as Graham was as far as blocking goes.

Why do people care so much about 40 yard dash times? If Carlson is slow on the field then I'd downgrade him but if he plays fast enough his 40 time is irrelevant.
