If everything checks out with McClain and Dunlop, they will be top 10 picks.

Brandon Graham is a terrific player, but that type of guy comes around fairly often. He's pretty close to what Larry English was last year, and LaMarr Woodley in 2007. Guys with Dunlap kind of potential are few and far between.

Not aggressive, no sacks/poor tackling. No thanks. Looking at just his play, not his "measureables", he's a 4th round pick. No thanks.
Hopefully BB agrees. Potential is nice, but if you're heart isn't in playing football, what's the point of drafting them? Hopefully he learned his lesson from Bethel all world Johnson.

There's nothing I can see to "check out" with McClain. His ceiling will likely be limited by his position. Unless his timed speed is in the Patrick Willis range, I still think the 10-12 range is most likely.
Dunlap could check out for the Pats but not for other teams. I'm not sure anyone else would really look at him as a possible 3-4 OLB. At 270# he might be considered too light for a DE. Plus BB will likely get some info from Meyer that won't be generally available.
No sense worrying about where they'll go until after the combine.

There was a guy last year named MICHAEL JOHNSON who was probably better than Dunlap, better pass rusher, same size. Great athlete, basketball player.
3rd round! If we didn't draft him, why would we draft this turkey?
Michael Johnson played very well for the Bengals this year. I would have loved to have had him on the Pats. But he's not better than Dunlap. He was lighter and thinner and was a major liability against the run. He was more similar to Jason Pierre-Paul in style than to Dunlap. And he was a steal at the top of the 3rd round.

I hear ya. I was begging for a trade up in round 3.
Phenoms always get over-criticized when their dominance is less than 100%
In basketball, Rudy Gay got drafted behind Adam Morrison, Sheldon Williams, and Randy Foye because he didn't always dominate.
Clinic, what would you think about trading Wilfork, signing Peppers, drafting Dunlap, and switching to a 4-3?
I was very impressed earlier this season with Cincinnati's swarming front 7 when they were playing well against Baltimore and Pittsburgh. I thought Johnson looked particularly good and got a lot of pressure up front, and wished at that time that we had taken a shot at him.
One of the things I like about getting big, versatile DE's like Dunlap and Austen Lane is that I think that we would use them in a 4-3 or a 4-2-5 right away while they learn the nuances of the 3-4 OLB position. I don't particularly see what the benefit would be to trading Wilfork and signing Peppers in that scenario. But I could see playing a "big" 4 man DL with Wilfork and Warren inside and Dunlap and Lane outside.

An overhaul of some sort is certainly needed. If we keep Wilfork, we still need 3 starting linebackers and a 3-4 end.
Two front 7 players are an absolute must, and 3 would be more like it.
I know Wilfork has been very durable and a good Patriot, but I wouldn't be surprised if an injury burdens his career sometime after signing a huge contract with us.
I really don't see him signing a contract that isn't huge, because his wife is tough as nails and hails from Florida.
