I believe that is incorrect; I read his salary was $4.5 million this year. The link early in this thread that stated Johnson's salary was for $3 million was for last year.
As far as a one-year 'showcase' deal goes, he's under contract till 2011; why would he agree to take a pay cut? At the time Moss was in a situation where most of the NFL doubted him and he needed to 'prove it' before getting a new, larger contract; Chad Johnson is not in that type of situation right now. He can either force the Bengals (or whomever trades for him) to pay him that much, or if the team does not want to pay him he becomes a free agent and he can sell his services to the highest bidder.

I think we should trade for Johnson. And also Anquan Boldin, Braylon Edwards, Deion Branch, Antonio Bryant, and Ronald Curry. We'd have the strongest, deepest, 1-9 WR corps in the league.
You can never have enough good players.

Isnt that the idea though...thats the reason why we got Moss after signing Stallworth and trading for Welker. With so many teams going defense first, I can see BB trying to be contrarian and outscore teams again. Adding 85 would simply add to our point total EVERY GAME. There isnt a 2nd round pick who can do that. But he would have to restructure, something I can see him doing in an effort to not just get out of town but go someplace he wants to go. I think he wants strong coaching, I cant see him succeeding in a place like Washington....

Would he? I doubt it. I think our offense pretty much maxed out in 2007. Every TD Johnson scores will simply be one that Moss, Welker, Watson, or the running game didn't score.

Re: Could we unload one of those #2's for Chad Johnson?
Why would the Patriots want him? We're already loaded at wideout as the current roster stands. Plus, I don't even know if he'd be willing to play within our salary cap. We have more glaring needs on the other side of the ball and I think that's where the rest of the cap money will (and should) go.

Yeah, exactly.
He has a high potential to cause problems within the team, a higher valued cap hit than we'd ever pay for a 3rd receiver, (last yr Gaffney 1.1 million) and we are already very loaded at that particular position. He couldn't possibly catch more than 40 or so passes this yr, and would only retract from our other, better players on the WR corp. Plus, didn't he kinda fall off the past couple yrs? With a reloaded WR corp, a improved running game, and an improved TE position, we are more than fine at those positions.
