Perhaps you're right about Kruger. Barwin is actually far more athletic than Vrabel ever was. I liked Kruger last year and thought he might be a potential OLB conversion project, but he looked very stiff at the combine and didn't do at all well in the drills. He looked like a pure 4-3 DE. I heard that his pro day didn't go too well either, and there are rumors he could drop to the 3rd round.

Right, when I said he's more like Vrabel than Barwin I didn't mean that Kruger is better than Barwin just more similar in style to Vrabel who isn't exactly Mr. Athletic himself. Some will say Vrabel's athleticism was underrated but he did what he did through size, power, smarts and desire more than anything else.

I understood your point and was agreeing with you. Kruger hasn't shown Barwin's kind of athleticism, but there's still a lot to like about him as a prospect. Size, power, smarts and desire sounds like a very good start.

I'm still not sure Belichick would take a guy changing position that high. I know that our DE change position from college DT, etc, and that the Wares and Merrimans have shown it to be a relatively safe move - even Wimbley has been alright but an overall disappointment - but even though Belichick finally answered the question on whether he would draft a LB in the first round last year the final frontier for me is seeing him draft a DE to OLB conversion high. If he's ever going to, this would be the year.
Re: Who are your five favorite players in the draft for the Patriots?
1. Jarron Gilbert - Great size, great talent and able to learn from Seymour and Warren in 2009. DT may be a need for the Pats in 2010, also.
2. Alphonso Smith - BB's ideal size for a corner, which makes him a guy of insterest. Corner may be a need in 2010 depending on the development of Wheatley, Wilhite and what happens with Leigh Bodden.
3. Scott McKillop - Near perfect size and situation for the Patriots. Lead the nation in tackles in 2007 with 151 and tallied another 137 in 2008. Senior linebacker who spent two years behind HB Blades, NFL draftee. Leader on defense, responsible for formation calls. Dealt with newly, converted linebackers (from the RB and WR position) in 08, which hindered the defense as a whole. History of wrestling in his background.
4. Clay Matthews - I'm hot and cold on this guy. Only has one year under his belt as a starter, but is related to Bruce Matthews and Clay Matthews Sr, who played for Bill. Has good size and speed, but likely benefited from having veteran linebackers next to him. Likely bust in my book, but not an immediate need to put him in the game this year.
5. Lawrence Sidbury Jr. - Tweener who could be moved to the OLB position. Has long arms and huge hands, but needs to use them better to get off blockers (especially against the run). Good in pursuit of the QB and would likely be a pass rushing OLB, if not a situational pass rusher.
