He is a projected top 20 pick though so there's no way I see the Pats spend that high a pick for a #3 WR.

I'd rather have a pass rushing OLB like say Everette Brown.

no *****, i know Macklin goes to mizzu, i was talking about Harvin. cstjohn17 mention Harvin and i am against drafting a WR from Florida.

Macklin would be nice, but i think our priorities elsewhere

I think the Patriots need to look strongly at upgrading the no.3 WR position. I wouldn't love spending a no.1 on a WR, but I wouldn't hate it either. This team starts 3 WR, so the Pats no.3 WR needs to be a guy that would start for a number of teams who run a base 2 WR set.

Outside of an upgrade to the Oline (I'd like to see a more physical/nasty guy added to help the run game), I think WR is the biggest need for this offense. We need a 2nd guy who can make a big play down the field pretty badly.

When discussing WR prospects for the Pats, you are prohibited from using those words...

I have to agree 100%. And I think Macklin would struggle running routes and reading defenses in an option offense like ours.

Are you insinuating that Chad Jackson wasn't a good NFL WR?

How dare you!

I'm not sold on Maclin. College WRs, RBs, QBs, etc are crowned by ESPN every year to be these amazing athletes. And the majority of them do jack in the pros. Maclin just seems like he's a bit overhyped because he plays in a high octane offense. There's plenty of talented and physically gifted receivers that aren't playing on great teams. I'd rather see the Patriots try to develop someone then blowing a first on a WR. I mean look at #1, #2 WRs from the past few years. None of them are putting up spectacular numbers.

You need to do a re-check before you say NONE of them are putting up spectacular numbers. Calvin Johnson is doing a helluva job considering he has no QB throwing to him. Santonio Holmes says hi.

WRs and RBs are a crap shoot. Everyone knows that. Everyone thought that the Patriots stole Chad Jackson when they originally drafted him. And he busted because of injuries and his inability to earn the trust of the QB plus his slowness in learning the play-book.

Both of them are the number 1 or 2 receivers on those teams. We are talking about spending a number one draft pick on a guy that will be number 3 for awhile.

So, now you backpedal from your statement in a futile attempt to justify your gross exaggerations. Listen, I don't think Maclin fits into the Pats system. Nor do I feel that the Patriots are going to spend another 1st round pick on a skill position when they regularly draft players a year in advance of when they need them for the lines.

And no, "WE" were not talking about spending a 1st round pick on Maclin. BRIZ was doing that. And you were just throwing out gross exaggerations.

I'm not backpedaling from anything because it's the truth. Calvin Johnson is the #1 guy on the Lions and Holmes is #2 for the Steelers. And you think I'm exaggerating? Go back from the past five years and find all the receivers drafted in the first two rounds. More often then not they are putting up subpar numbers. Some aren't even playing. Just because two guys are playing well doesn't mean every WR drafted is some kind of instant lock. If you really want to go by stats you're flat out wrong. Because theres more flops than the two successes you pointed out, with Johnson being a top five pick anyways.
