For guys like Talib (and Moss, Dillon, etc.) who love football but can be a mess in the rest of their lives, I think it really must be a paradise. Football at its highest level, with a whole lockerroom of guys who care about winning as much as you do, and a no-distractions atmosphere that helps protect you from yourself.

But as everyone has said: the sooner an extension is signed, the more we'll believe it.

What makes me think of it as genuine (other than because I want it to be true) is how utterly rare it is for these guys to bad-mouth Belichick or the organization after theyve been cut or traded. In fact in almost every case, they go on saying nothing but positive things about their time here.

If Belichick was such a huge egomaniacal prick as our enemies want to make him out to be, then why aren't the ex-players/Pats calling him out for it?

I think its because Belichick and this organization has in fact something special that professional players can truly appreciate.

Ultimately, it's just a puff piece that has no implications beyond this season.

Talib, shut your man down for 3 more games and we'll go from there.

Ouch! I hadn't thought about his initials before.

Hopefully there is nothing inherently problematic with the initials "AT", and that things turn out better for Talib's future with the Pats, than the last high profile guy with those initials.

That article is wonderful on so many levels, especially coming on the heels of the Shaughnessy crap. Somebody ought to put a copy of that in every Texans' locker at Gillette before they get off the bus and get dressed on Sunday.

Maybe Andre Johnson and Arian Foster will defect before game time.

It also sends about the strongest signal possible that Talib would love to stick around and be a long-term part of this defense. Nice.

And at the same time there's a whole list of former jets constantly bashing that organization.

The former/current Jet B.Edwards,LT,Jenkins,Damien Woody,Kate Upton.

My thoughts exactly. Let's see what happens when the bloom is off the rose. But, if he's happy and he stays, that will be great!

Obviously the atmosphere here doesn't work for everyone (Albert Haynesworth thought he was in a good situation too...perhaps even heavenly).

I think BB is upright with his players and like any good parent, follows through whatever he speaks. H doesn't try to play games with players (except the occasional attempt to motivate them in a public setting if they are not quite playing to their level)

Additionally, he tells players what he expects and how they will be used. If they do their work, learn, give a little extra effort and excel (on field performance/consistency), then good things will follow.

People have to realize that we have had a decade plus of solid excellence. Despite not winning a SB since 2004, we have always been in the conversation the end of week 17 or (usual case) post season. Not many players can really get that anywhere else.

I love how some lady fans in this thread have a more realistic view of what this article means for Talib's long-term commitment to the Pats -- i.e. nothing.

I mean, we got one guy who says it sends "the strongest signal possible" that Talib wants to stay. What are you, 12, kid? Say "Hi" to Santa for me.
