There is fluid collecting around her lungs. At first they gave her meds thru IV and it was reducing the fluids. Then they decided to give it orally and the fluids started to recollect. So they had to do IV again. After 2 unsuccessful attempts by the specialized IV team, she was sent to IR (interventional radiology) to have the IV inserted with ultrasound. She's pretty depressed. Looks super spaced out. But I think she's getting better. Today is day 7 in hospital. I think she will only be discharged next week.

Wow! I just got wind of this thread, and I am so sorry for what your daughter has been through. I know this has to be tough on you, but your daughter seems like a fighter, and I believe she we get through this.

Hang in there, Nab. Please get some rest in between. I'm sure Children's Hospital has some good set ups for parents to relax in that you are already aware of. Prayers and thoughts are still strong.

She's not. The most important thing is to relearn how to feed and she's not taking the bottle. Only 10-15ml. She needs 90-110 per feed. She either too exhausted in general or sucking is just overloading her lungs that still has fluid around it. So they can't send her home till she drinks more by herself.

I just went to a class to learn how to put an NG tube into my daughter. ARGH! I can't imagine sticking that thing up her nose and then find her stomach. They'll be supplying us with a machine to feed her at home. Wow, I thought they'd make sure she can be on the bottle. I was wrong. So the only thing stopping from her being discharged is her lung fluid and just recently chloride level.

Sorry you're having a rough time of it. But it does sound like she's getting better. Feeding will help a lot.

Oh man, nab. Stay strong. Being a parent really knocks the world into view, doesn't it? I am hoping and praying she takes a bottle soon because I cannot imagine doing the tube up the nose thing. I mean, you'll do what you have to but man.

Good news is that she can maybe go home soon though, right?
