Re: Patriots Showdown vs Miami Next Sunday Flexed to 4:25pm
IF, and it is a big if, Indy comes to play and actually takes down the Texans, the NFL just wrung out some bonus rating points. The Miami V patriots game goes from almost no ramifications to big ramifications. In that regards it is understandable for them to flex it to a late game (assuming that is why they did it).
While us Patriot fans want a bye, the NFL wants it badly too! Denver and Patriots as #1 and #2 makes the Denver v Patriots AFCCG more likely to happen. And a Denver/Manning V Patriots/Brady prime time AFCCG is going to be one of the most watched TV showings all year. There aren't too many times remaining that the NFL/networks can hype this kind of match up with this big of drawing power. IMHO there won't be a selling point like this for the NFL for many years to come. Maybe RG needs to make some calls to the officiating crews and remind them of this

Only one team in the NFL is likely to end the season with a 1,000-yard rusher, a 1,000-yard receiver, a 3,000-yard passer, someone with at least 15 sacks, and two players with 100 tackles apiece.
It’s the Miami Dolphins.
All they need is running back Reggie Bush to rush for 60 yards and linebacker Kevin Burnett to get one tackle in the season finale at New England. They’d join wide receiver Brian Hartline (1,014 yards receiving), quarterback Ryan Tannehill (3,059 yards passing), defensive end Cam Wake (15 sacks) and linebacker Karlos Dansby (121 tackles) to complete the list.
The article then goes on to debate whether those are just numbers, compares them to other teams with similar numbers, and asks whether that is evidence that the team should be a playoff contender.
Quote:
Still, to have such numbers – a 1,000-yard rusher and receiver, a 3,000-yard passer, someone with at least 15 sacks and two guys with 100 tackles apiece – hints at balance and a distribution of talent. You’d think it would be a sign of a good team. You’d think it would keep a team in playoff contention.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins, it seems they’re just numbers.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck." RAH

This is going to be the Ryan Mallett Coming Out Party. Houston will win. Play Brady for a quarter. Get him his td pass. Rest; Vollmer, Mankins, AHern and get the younger guys in there. Cannon vs Wake is a nice test. Donald Thomas gets some rust off. I'd like to play Gronk a little. See how he's doing.
I'd sit Wilfork, Spikes, Ninko, Talib and Dennard on defense. Get Tavon Wilson, Justin Francis, M. Cole and Arrington more reps.
