Default How the 2012 Patriots Were Built

I picked this up from another board, and can't claim credit. It charts the evolution of all 32 teams' rosters:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...=2&output=html

What stands out most to me is how completely BB has rebuilt this team since the end of 2009, only 3 years ago. Only 14 players are around from then. Only Brady, Mankins, Vollmer, Welker, Wilfork, Mayo, Gostkowski and Slater remain in terms of major contributors from 2009.

The Legendary 2010 draft has really helped this Pats team.

-A HOF caliber TE
-A probowl caliber TE
-A probowl caliber safety
-A probowl caliber ILB
-A solid UDFA DT
-A solid punter

Great Get, only 5 players in the NFL prior to 2007, with the youth of the roster this team is looking at a 2-4 year run of dominance.

While I think you were a little hyperbolic a bit on Spikes (I don't see him a quite an all pro yet), you neglected 3 OTHER very good pick ups from that draft/UDFA class. - Cunningham Fletcher, and Deadrick. So in 2010 the Pats got an amazing NINE rookies that are still contributing to an elite team 3 years later. That HAS to be some kind of a record for the 7 round era

The other thing I thing I found stunning from that spreadsheet was that the Pats added NINETEEN new players this season. That's a lot any season, but for a team coming off a superbowl appearance, its amazing. The number of new players actually totalls 25 if you include the IR guys

And they wonder how the Pats keep on winning. To be able to assimilate that many new players into the complex offensive and defensive systems like the Pats run, takes superb organizational skills, and great coaching.

You know its hard to believe that after all this time and success, you can still find new things to be amazed at from this organization.

Nice find Mayo. It helps pass the interminable time before game time

I''m not 100% certain, and I'm going from memory, but I think the roster turnover has generally been around 18 players or so each of the last 3 years - about 33% of the 53 man roster. I'm guessing it will not be as great going in to 2013, depending on the team's ability to re-sign it's own FAs. The core is set for a nice run, and continuity is highly desirable at this point.

Longest-tenured Patriots:

1. Tom Brady
2. Vince Wilfork
3. Logan Mankins
4. Stephen Gostowski
5. Wes Welker
6. Dan Connolly
7-8. Jerod Mayo, Matthew Slater
9. Ryan Wendell
10-14. Vollmer, Edelman, Chung, Brace, Pryor

I admit it -- some of that surprised me.

5 of those 14 players - Welker, Vollmer, Edelman, Chung and Brace - will be FAs after this season. I doubt Chung and Brace will be back. The others ... one can only hope.

Have contended all along that this team is being rebuilt on the fly.. and we have not missed a beat.

My fave's are the UDFA's who make an impact..
