Default PFT: Josh McDaniels a HC Candidate for 2013?

From Florio:

Josh McDaniels could be closing in on his second chance as a head coach | ProFootballTalk

Florio mentions rumors linking McDaniels to Cleveland - especially if they do hire Mike Lombardi as the GM - and Jacksonville.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake for Josh to rush back as a HC. I doubt he's matured enough. A guy like Lombardi might help him avoid some of the mistakes he made in Denver, and certainly some of the personnel gaffes. But I would think that he would benefit tremendously from some more time working around BB.

I don't think he will go at the end of the season!

Still think he may be being matured to become BB's successor!

McDaniels will get another head coaching opportunity. I'm not sure Cleveland (no disrespect to Cleveland fans) is the place he should be looking at.

I think Josh after getting a taste of what HC entails has learned his lesson, particularly given the situation he was able to return to. I think his value perception will only increase over the next couple of seasons. And he's still a tad toxic on the heels of what has transpired in KC. And after the Mangini and RAC fiascos in Cleveland I think Josh would be a tough PR sell in the dawgpound. My sense is he will remain here until he's poised to pick his spot and call the shots. The new ownership group in Cleveland has some heavy hitters already onboard and there will likely be a short leash on whomever they bring in.

Interesting that the same rumor monger hears Polian might be headed to another sons of BB fiasco in KC. Would be fascinating to see how he fares absent a #1 pick like Manning on the horizen... Scott proved he was not ready for prime time when his efforts seemed limited to trying to recreate something he couldn't. When all the power rests with the GM they have to be as adept at evaluating coaching as talent. The only guys who have made it outside the program are personnel men, Ozzie and Dimetroff, and both had their own vision which Bill may have shaped or influenced to an extent but they were smart enough not to simply try to replicate.

Think there is some type of "agreement" between he and Bill that he will stay on for a while..

Also think he is being "groomed" to be the next HC of the NEP...

I think he knows that is back on the table but I think he also knows it's at least half a decade away. And a lot can happen in the interim so I'm sure he will still be interested in opportunities as they arise, just not this soon or in places like Cleveland or Jaxonville.

No disrespect but i think Josh at this point in his career is a Coordinator ONLY! Being HC is a different Beast the Big Picture so to speak and I dont think he's cut out for that. Look at Mangini I dont think Josh is more accomplished than him and how did it work out for him? Also Cleveland the sister of the poor???Josh would be a fool to take that job.

I agree. I think that you only get a second chance once, and you have to be very careful about what you take. BB realized that a second chance with the Jets was not the way to go, and bolted for the Pats. I think that it's too early for McDaniels to return as a HC, and the Cleveland and Jacksonville jobs are probably not great situations.

Agreed. Also, I remember reading that his family is looking for some stability, which makes me believe he's staying in NE for some time. Whether that means he's BB's eventual successor or not remains to be seen, but I don't see him leaving now until TB12 is done.

This may sound ignorant but I just don't think Josh can command respect out of players as a HC. A small white guy, never played any relevant football, only 36 years old, and an epic failure as a HC in the past. He needs to get older than the actual players.

If your a player being yelled at by this guy as your HC, would you take him seriously?
