I'd love it if Julian were a poor man's Wes Welker. Trouble is, so far he is not even a homeless man's Wes Welker. He's more of a constantly injured man's Wes Welker

Edelman had this sweet outside the numbers catch against the Ravens I wish we'd utilize more.

Anyone remember what I'm taking about? They lined him out wide, he fought with the CB and had an awesome turnaround catch in the guy's (Webb?) face.

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.

But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.

Edelman has his catch rate up. Brady is trusting him because he catches the ball. I disagree and believe Edelman can play the slot if Welker is gone.

I'm all for keeping Edelman at a reasonable salary. I also see no evidence that he's a player to count on for 16 games, or 12 games, or even for 8 games.

He is just getting hurt too much, simple as that. He needs to take a lesson from Welker and Woodhead and finish his runs by getting low and minimizing contact.
Hopefully Edelman learns next season when the team will be relying on him more.

I'm a big Julian fan. I think he's explosive and certainly has an elusiveness much like Woodhead does. He'll be boringly average for stretches, and then electrify you with 1, or a series of plays (in all facets of the game). He's more exciting to watch then Welker (IMO).

With that said, and as has been stated a few times already.

He cannot replace Wes as a weapon on this offense. Welker, is not as "flashy" as Edelmen is perhaps, but he has 2 very significant qualities in abundance that I've yet to see from Edelmen.
  1. Reliability- The last SB aside, the dude is just about as automatic on some routes as ANYONE in the league.
  2. Durability - Takes a licking and keeps on ticking like noone's business.

The two don't compare.

We all believe that.... for about three games until he gets hurt. Then he'll sit a few games, then play three more until he gets hurt again.

lather, rinse, repeat.

Nobody disputes that he can play very well on those too-rare occasions when he is able to suit up for more than a couple of games in a row.

How you can be completely ignoring the durability issue is mind-boggling.

Nobody here posts more rubbish than you. Its every day in every thread.

Edelman will be back next year because of this season. Hes having a great year despite missing 33% of the season.

You've just made my point. One of us made a ridiculous post here and then misrepresented what he'd written while attacking the poster who correctly pointed it out. That person wasn't me, so quit clowning yourself.

And, again, Edelman is not having a great year as a receiver, and he's not shown that he can replace Welker or make Welker expendable.

On the "other" Pats site - one of their reglular posters (who has a good rep) said that NFL network was reporting that Edelman has a broken bone. Did not see this reported elsewhere.

He has more than 2 receptions three times this year- in 25% of the games his team has played, and in 37% of the games in which he has been active.

You have a weak definition of "great"

Welker has as many 10+ reception games as Edelman has 3+ reception games.
