If this is a hairline, he might be back as soon as the stitches and wound start to heal. Dress it up, cover it nice, good to go!

Do hairlines require surgery?

i have a buddy who is in the medical field. I asked him today at work his take. He thinks it's worse than a hairline if he needed screws to set it. Should be able to heal on it's own in 4-6 weeks if a hairline but who knows

The silver lining is it will hopefully give his hip time to heal and give some work to Shiancoe.

Personally, I hope they don't rush him back. They've done that too many times, and it generally hasn't worked well. Didn't work with Mayo in 2009. Didn't work with Chung in 2011. Didn't work with Hernandez this year. I'd rather go without Gronk the remainder of the "preseason" and end up the #4 seed and go into the "regular season" at full strength than to rush him back too soon only to have him banged up and get reinjured or be less effective.

Bryan Cox was out 4 weeks after breaking his leg in 2001.

Just depends on lot of variables

At 4 weeks he "might" be back for the game against SF. If it's longer than that, I'm ok with him missing the final 2 weeks of the season to make sure he's 00% for the post season. (though a tune up game with Miami wouldn't be a bad thing either).
