Re: Spikes,Mayo and Dennard fined a total of over $40,000 in Bills game
No, it all goes to NFL Charities. And the fine amounts are now stipulated in the CBA and are tied not just to the level of offense but to the number of times you are fined.

Apparently, that's not always the case, but it doesn't sound like it's easy to predict when a player might avoid a fine.
apparently merton hanks hates the pats too.
lets clark off w/ nothing on a helmet-helmet and then gives spikes a 25K when he jumped to block a possible pass and as a result came down helmet-helmet height . I didnt see any intentional helmet - helmet there; just incidental facemask scraping.

no winning for losing.
No kidding. I really didn't think they would fine Spikes for it. The replay showed the play was far from a malicious or illegal hit. But who knows the process that goes into what gets fined. With QB injuries in the news and the NFL feeling the heat, the fines will (or already have) take on a political/PR component. With Spikes having a reputation, he should keep his checkbook handy whether it's a good hit or not....

You must have been watching a different replay to the rest of us. Initial contact with the helmet/face mask to the head/neck area of a QB.
Why we keep defending illegal hits I don't know. It makes us look senile.

Odd defined: Saying "The rest of us" written two posts after another poster writes "gives spikes a 25K when he jumped to block a possible pass and as a result came down helmet-helmet height . I didnt see any intentional helmet - helmet there; just incidental facemask scraping."
It wouldn't be hard to find other posters who agree as there were some (and those who agree with you I'm sure). However, just the mere fact you anoint yourself as the spokesperson for everyone else is a peculiar frame of thought given the obvious. Hey, you don't agree? Have at it. But then onto "Senile" trying to making yourself look oh so smart and righteous? LOL, that takes you from peculiar to just being idiotic....<ignore>

Well you must have been watching a different replay to 'me' then, if we're nit picking.
I think it is senile. He didn't jump to block a pass, he came in to hit the QB and he came in too high. It was that simple.
It's senile because people make excuses for it.
He hit him high. Initial contact was with his helmet/face mask to the head/neck area of the QB. That's a flag. That's also a fine. The league is being consistent with how they fine those hits whether it be malicious or not.
Lets quit making excuses for Spikes when he should have gone in lower. If he tackles the way he's supposed to tackle then the flag wouldn't have gotten thrown. I lose count of how many people who say this but I'll go for it again...which coach the history of football has ever taught a player to go in that high? No one.
It's an avoidable mistake. There are certain things that can't be helped but that could have been.
Time and time again people make some kind of excuse for players. There's no excuse. It wasn't malicious and Fitz was a girl with the way he reacted but, regardless, that play was illegal and he deserves the same fine that every player gets for the mistake.
I'm saying what it looks like from the outside...because it does.

Don't know how anyone can condemn the fines.
All the hits we bonehead plays.
The cheap shot by Spikes on Fitzy was the worst, especially since it kept a drive alive. I can't stand the helmet to helmet hits that are clearly an intent to injure. What fans seem to forget is that hits like that could lead to retaliation. If Brady went down because of that then it won't seem so intimidating and the cost won't be measurable.
