Before the game, Nantz writes signature game enders -- one for each team. Some of them are pretty memorable, especially after the NCAA championships. It's kind of his trademark. If you watch any Nantz game, as soon as it ends, his partner gives him the floor and he reads something that was obviously scripted -- often containing a clever pun or something -- "the Butler did it." Nantz seemed pretty in control of the game, and during the strip sack, he was on top of what it meant.
I think he just has two pieces of paper -- and he pulled out the Jets one instead of the Patriots one and read it on autopilot, perhaps confused because of the weird end of game delay. I'd love to see the copy he should have read -- probably something about Brady's continued good record against the Jets or something.
I don't get why everyone on this board hates everything all the time. I mean, if it's Gus Johnson or something -- a guy obviously trying to be insane -- fine, I can understand strong feelings. But Jim Nantz? Cripes, you guys would hate Dick Enberg if he came back to do football.
