Lightbulb Week 7: Jets at Patriots Preview

Week 7: Jets at Patriots Preview
By: John Morgan

Run the ball? Sure, but a balanced offense is still the best choice. The Pats short passing game is still highly effective; the pass can set up the run and the run can set up play action passes. ...

Default Jets' Turnovers 2012 - take the ball away!

The Jets are a turnover waiting to happen - they have a +1 turnover ratio but it could be so much worse.

They've fumbled the ball 9 times in six games - 1.5 times per game - but only lost four, so they're quick to recover the ball.

Passing - Sanchez has thrown 6 interceptions in six games (Brady has 3 INTs). Sanchez' six picks have come on just 177 throws. He throws a pick every 29.5 attempts ( Brady throws a pick every 81 attempts).

Today, you can expect two or three turnovers, minimum, from the Jets. With the Patriots leading the league (tied with the Falcons) at +10 in takeaways, Patricia and Belichick should dial up a very aggressive defense.

This should be a week where the defense attacks and just flat-out goes for the ball. The defensive backs should stop chasing receivers and start going for picks. Seriously, do we expect Mark Sanchez and his dismal 70.9 passer rating to burn the Patriots with that set of receivers? Do we really?

A crappy passer against a crappy secondary...comedy of errors today maybe? It won't be pretty.

The difference is that Brady calmly calls audibles while Manning flaps like a chicken, barks 11 code words, and makes sure every camera in the stadium has documented his once-in-a-generation (and patented, I believe) ability to see a defensive formation and change the play. Both have the same effect, but Manning transcends measurable human intellect while Brady merely chooses a different play.

crappy passer + crappy secondary = incomplete pass + PI = chain movement.

After what Russell Wilson did it wouldn't be shocking. Although he at least had Sidney Rice. Sanchez has shred this defense before...seems like he either kills it or is absolutely dreadful.
