If he signs with them and either Lloyd, Welker get injured, Deion Branch has to be a must get. Edelman and Slater are not good backup wideouts.
Edleman can do some things out there that not many WR's can, he's got some skills. Why the pats don't use him more is beyond me. Just like it was obvious to me they should of used Ridley more last year.

I'd be really disappointed if he wasn't really hurt or was just bumped and bruised and they cut him. The Pats have more tape than I'll ever see, and certainly know a bazillion times more than I know about the game, but I know I'd feel better with the team having one more receiver that Brady knows and already has chemistry with. Hopefully Jabar is just seeing what other options are there in case the Pats don't come calling in the near future. If not him, Branch would be fine, to.
As I said earlier in the week, it is a good business decision for Gaffney to sign with another team, be on a 53-man roster Game 1 if he can, and guarantee himself a year's salary. This might be more attractive than to wait for the weekly phone call from the patriots.
The patriots can sign Gaffney in the next couple of days, or they can pass on the opportunity. If we wait, one should judge that Gaffney just isn't as important to the team than the value of keeping one the current players on the 53 another week or two instead of on the Practice squad.
This isn't about Gaffney not being quite ready to play. He certainly could be inactive for a couple of weeks with Rivera on the Practice Squad. Gaffney is apparently not good enough to make our team.

You make many assumptions prior to your conclusion.

Could he not be injured and working out? The dolphins key leverage would be giving him a week 1 roster spot guaranteeing his salary. Before doing this they would need to know more about the extent of the injury.

Why? Because last year Branch and Welker were both better and the simple fact is that Gronk and Hernandez, when healthy, are better than Edelman. It's been said since we drafted them in 2010, the 3rd WR role is almost completely redundant...Edelman still won't see much of the field bar any injuries and even after that, I expect Salas to beat out Edelman at the #3 spot...you overrate his skill set.
If he were good enough to be used more, then he would have beaten out competition...which he hasn't.
As for Ridley, it's just as obvious why he wasn't used more. He had rookie fundamental flaws in his running style, something Green-Ellis didn't have. On top of that, we don't know how the lockout affected Ridley's learning curve.
