Default Chandler Jones already commanding TE double teams?

Well, some of the time at least:

Quote:
CHANDLER JONES IS ON THE RADAR OF OPPOSING OFFENSIVE COORDINATORS

It wasn’t the sort of big-time performance we saw in the preseason opener against the Saints, but the rookie out of Syracuse showed up (mostly) positively again on film. Working as the left defensive end, Jones finished with 11 snaps in just under a quarter of action, and looked active against Philadelphia left tackle King Dunlap.

The Eagles’ sent a tight end his way to help out with Dunlap for most of the first series and tried to trap him on other plays. They also took advantage of some over-aggressiveness on the part of the rookie, who ran past the play on a couple of occasions. But for the most part, he was able to maintain gap discipline and prevent Vick from taking off and running.

“[Michael] Vick is very different from a lot of different quarterbacks in the league. He scrambles. You just have to contain him; that’s what we try and do. He’s just a great player,” Jones said.

This is what peissed me off about Felger and Mazz this week. They along with Jermaine Wiggins talked about the Eagles figuring out how to block him because he didn't apply pressure on Vick when if you watched Jones it looked pretty clear that he was playing a contain role and not a pass rush role. If you watch the tape, he delays his rush to diagnose whether Vick was taking off then either rushed or contained.

Wilfork didn't play. Love looked dominant. There's only so many guys you can double team. If Jones is already becoming someone opposing defenses have to scheme around, it will open up a lot of options for other guys.

You're 100% right. And after Foles replace Vick, there was one 3rd and long play where Jones clearly fired off the snap looking only to pass rush and he easily blew past Dunlap and got the QB hit.

He was actually getting excellent pressure on the injury sack. Love collapses pocket, Vick looks to his left for escape and see's Jones beating his tackle, Vick get's blind sided by a mac truck.

They talked about Jones looking less impressive being at least in part to having a different role because of Vick being both left handed and Michael Vick.

This kid is a stud for sure. All the raw talk has been silenced for the time being.

I don't think they realized that because they talked about Dunlap as if he was a typical LT in charge of protecting the QB's blindside. They didn't say it specifically, but they did talk about the significance of going up against a left tackle as if, like in most offenses, the left tackle is usually much better than the right tackle.

I said in other threads, for a guy who played in the NFL for nearly a decade, Jermaine Wiggins knows absolutely nothing about football.

You expect Mazz to figure that out?

I'm convinced that Rob is a masochist. Can't for the life of me understand how someone could, week after week, be so tormented by Felger and Mazz yet still continue to tune in.
