'Twine and Jim Lee Hunt...two of the best tackles in the league in their day...House was 6 feet tall but packed a solid 270 and had extremely quick feet...led the team in sacks, (even though those stats weren't kept at the time) for 3 or 4 years if I'm remembering right. Should definitely be a Patriots HOF'er IMO...

I tried to google info on the process yesterday because I though that was the case but found no mention of a veterans committee. I agree with the captain that every other year they should revisit the veteran candidates and select one. And if they don't want that to eventually delute the process, make the selection based on % of votes so that eventually they don't necessarily add a veteran every other year.

As a geezer I remember Antwine & Hunt and earlier players like Larry Eisenhauer and Bob Dee. As an older kid I loved us having a team and not having the NY Giants stuffed down our TV throats. Who knew that it would come full circle 50 yrs later with more Jint stuffing? Bummah.

I would say goodbye to Tuna, though, although the mediots that largely form the nominating committee may find it harder to...

He was coach for 2 years and essentially already left before the biggest game in franchise history was even played while it was still his watch.

Tuna can go to Canton and celebrate for 40 years - well deserved for his record in its entirety. Anyone who even gives him consideration in foxboro should be banished from the NE area.

I am disgusted with myself.

On a thread congratulating one of the all time best Patriots and my personal 2nd favorite (after Grogan); I uttered not a single word about this fantastic individual; and instead posted about a rotgut coach.

Downtown Troy Brown. You DA MAN!!!!!! Lived, breathed and played Patriots football as it should be. Thanks for the memories.

While I want to see H Antwine in the Pats HOF, I am very glad for Troy and voted for him.

Still a vts committee needs to meet every other year to address some of the neglected old timers.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Some great reflections from Troy via Curran after his conference call. Talked about the struggle to just remain on the roster for the first seven years of his career.

Then, over the next three years - the start of the Belichick Era - Brown started 41 of the 46 games he played and caught 281 passes for more than 3,000 yards.

Seen as too slow to be a wideout, Brown worked to get faster.

"I got better, I got faster and when I was 28, 29, 30 it showed," he said. "That was some of the best times ever in the 40-yard dash. Maybe I don't have all the things you think a guy my size would have but (as Bill Belichick said), 'When you have the heart and determination to get something done and you go out there and play the game like you love it you can make up for the things you don't have.

"Thank God for Bill Belichick and Charlie Weis for giving me the opportunity to be a starter in the NFL. It worked out for me and it worked out for them too," Brown added.
Brown reflects on inspired climb to Pats HOF

There was a heartwarming quality to those early (what turned out to be a) dynasty teams. Lots of under hyped overachievers who were just determined, heart and soul, all in football players.

I remember resigned as a kid in the knowledge that, if you wanted to watch football on Sunday on WHDH-TV (Channel 5) in Boston, you were going to watch the Jints. The good news was that, as the 60s (& 70s) continued, so did the losing.
