I understand that it's sinful to laugh at the afflicted, like those people who used to pay money to visit the insane. But the other week I watched a Jets game when the Pats weren't playing. It was against Miami and the Jets were hilariously bad then too.
Can I justify my action because it wasn't my intention to laugh at the Jets (I wanted to see if Miami were any good -- they weren't)? Or must I do penance because my laughter was a foreseeable and inevitable consequence of my action?
Thanks in advance,
Mike (seeking absolution)
My son,
Your sin in not your of your own doing, yet is borne by you.
It is written that in the Garden of Eden, the Lord placed two trees, the Tree of Life, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Sucks. To make a long story short, God made for the man Adam a mate, and she ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Sucks. The sin you speak of is Original Sin, the curse of all the children of Eve, who all can see the JEST suck, and therefore, laugh at them. A lot.
So you see, your high-minded philosophical question only appears to involve predestiny and self-determination. It is, rather, the human condition that causes our sin to begin with, and the human condition that causes our compulsion to watch the JEST and therefore laugh.
Nevertheless, as you point out, it is in fact sinful to laugh at the JEST -- "lest man become as one of us," so saith the Lord.
Throw 3 hail marys, and 3 interceptions, that you may know the pain of the team that you mock.

I thought this Rex Ryan comment was hilarious:
Quote:
“I’ll say this about Bart Scott: during that game he did a tremendous job and did it in a lot of areas in that game,” Ryan said. “We should have played him more; he was getting after it.”
Yes, play an old, slow LB who talks a lot and never backs it up much more Rex. I think the guy has gone insane. He thinks Sanchez had agreat game, the Jets are as good as the Pats, and Bart Scott is so go that he should play more.
I know Shane Vereen wished he played more because Vereen may have had another 83 yard TD pass if Scott was covering him more.

So are you suggesting that the Sanchize is the debil. or that Jesus is the only possible QB who could be successful on the Rats?
It might be a moot point as I don't think Jesus would associate with a team as sinful as the Rats, and would undoubtedly "pull an Eli" if He was drafted by them.

Re: The 2012 season: the Jets [Mod Edit: STILL] suck
The sane Jets fans have come to a conclusion that their team needs significant help, talent-wise. Unfortunately aforementioned sanity is only momentary for some as some of these trade/sign scenarios will show:
We need matt moore here. Sign him on the cheap in the offseason and give him the starting job. That should be our #1 priority this offseason. Stabalizing the qb position with a veteren. Then find a guy in the draft to groom. And make sanchez head clipboard operator until next year when we can get rid of him.
Quote:
WR: Julian Edelman. This guy has talent, and can be used many different ways. With all the big names people will fight for next year, a guy like this could be signed to a VERY reasonable contract.
> Implying that he will come cheap because the Pats [insert rationale]

Trade Greene somewhere for a early to mid round pick in 2014
Yeah, the league is all salivating over the Shonne Greene sweepstakes.

Do us all (including him) a favor and trade Tebow to the Jags for a 5th rounder

"Many will be quick to blame Ryan, the Jets’ ****sure coach, and his grand experiment with honesty, openness, and confidence. That’s not the Jets’ problem. The problem is they have two quarterbacks who can’t throw, no explosive running backs and a group of receivers so pedestrian they should paint a crosswalk on their sideline.
...
Rooting for the Jets is anathema for any Patriots fans, so their failure tastes better than Thanksgiving leftovers. But the emergence of the Jets as a legitimate rival for the Patriots was a victory for all of those who wanted a little more transparency with their football.
The Patriots win games because they have Brady, Wes Welker, Vince Wilfork, et al, not because Belichick treated Gronkowski’s injury like it was the access code to Area 51."
Yeah, right ...

Yes, Tebow is the answer.
(Trouble is no one has figured out to what question!)

Re: The 2012 season: the Jets [Mod Edit: STILL] suck
After the "anonymous" disparaging remarks about Tebow saying what a terrible player he was, I thought it was tremendously uplifting to see the Jets players come out show, in a display of solidarity, just how bad they all are .
It's like they had a players only meeting and a leader got up and said "hell, this just ain't on Timbo's shoulders, we ALLLL gotta carry this load, who's with me??"
And, to a chorus of "hell yeah's" and "Jets', Jets,Jets" they put on a truly inspiring display of ineptitude.
They did it for Tebow, they did it ......................for AMERICA!!!!.
