Bears hire Emery as general manager

Quote:
Emery was one of five candidates to interview for the Bears general manager position. The others were Patriots director of pro personnel Jason Licht, Chargers director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and Bears director of player personnel Tim Ruskell.

Emery and Licht were the two finalists, both meeting with the Bears for a second time this week.

BostonHerald.com - Bears pick Phil Emery as their GM, Jason Licht stays in New England

Quote:
Unfortunately for Licht — fortunately for the Patriots — he isn’t going anywhere. The Bears announced today they are hiring Phil Emery, the Chiefs scouting director, as their GM. Emery is respected having drafted eight Pro Bowlers in the last seven years.

So, the Pats get to keep Licht, and coach Bill Belichick gets to keep one of his best at finding hidden talent. Good, classy move allowing Licht to interview, and it paid off now that they get to keep him.

Still, one figures this won’t be the last offseason that Licht is targeted by an NFL team. He obviously impressed the Bears enough to be one of two to get a second interview, so other teams will likely be interested.
