Do you think all those short passes are that easy to complete? If they are, why isn't every team doing that all the time? Brees is a HIGHLY accurate quarterback, no matter what distance he's throwing. Dude completed 53.3% of his passes thrown 31-40 yards downfield this season. That's amazing. For comparison's sake, the incomparable Tom Brady was 0-8 throwing that distance. Matthew Stafford? 5-17 (29.4%). Eli Manning? 6-21 (28.6%). Philip Rivers? 6-20 (30.0%). Matt Ryan? 3-16 (18.8%). Only Aaron Rodgers was better (7-11, 63.6%). Even Peyton Manning, in his last year (2010), only went 8-24 (33.3%).
In other words, Drew Brees is incredibly accurate. Period. Their offense calls for a lot of short passes. Great. It works for them. If they aired it out more downfield, Brees would still complete more of them than almost anybody else.
