Default Cold Hard Football Facts ranks Patriots overall history of the franchise at #12 rank

http://coldhardfootballfacts.com/Art..._rankings.html

VERY interesting article and what a tough job to do but I think the folks over at CHFF did a great job in breaking down all 32 teams in overall Franchise Rankings although how you can measure up the Houston Texans who are the 'baby' of the league with the Packers or Bears is a bit unrealistic.

I think the Patriots ranking of #12 seems about right as the team was below Pathetic for a good part of the late 80s/early 90s decade before Parcells/Belichick/Kraft came along.

How would YOU rank the Patriots as overall franchise history of the 32 teams right now? - I think 12 is a good spot

(I did not see this elsewhere posted,If I did then please merge 'em)

First of all, thanks a lot for posting this. It's way too much to absorb on a workday morning, but I'm gonna study it over the weekend. I scrolled down to the top teams, and it's pretty hard to argue with the top of the list.

Quick thought: the Pats ranking just shows what a few years of good management can do. unfortunately it can't undo a couple of decades of incompetence.

Second Quick Thought: It would be interesting to see how CHFF would have ranked teams in (a) the SB Era and (b) the Post Cap/FA Era.

I'll throw out a couple of other ideas after I study the article.

Thanks again!

12th is a good spot for the Pats, they've played in 6 Superbowls, have 3 wins. That's legit as a Franchise.

Packers of coarse are #1 since the Trophy is named after their legendary coach. I don't really disagree with much on the list, except maybe the Raiders get a little too high of a ranking. Broncos could bump up a little as well, 6 Superbowl appearances is pretty legit by them. 2 - 4 if I remember correctly. I don't think the Giants would be as high if they didn't just win their 3rd and of coarse, do it against who they did, one of the best teams to ever finish a regular season.

I'd also put the Bills above the Seahawks. For all their flaws, they did make it to 4 in a row and have quite a few hall of fame players because of their run in the 90s.

Agree with everything in that artical. We only have been a real dominate team since 2001.

Small issues with Cleveland and Oakland being rated so highly. Since 1986, the Raiders mostly lose, and many times have been amongst the doormats. That's 22 years, or nearly half their existance. Cleveland hasn't won sqadoosh in 40 plus years, and has a .355 Playoff Winning %. #6 and #9 respectively? I don't see it.

Pats have had some clunker teams, but had some talented teams in the mid 70's, were in the Super Bowl in 1986, and again in 1996, and have dominated this current decade, playing in 4 Super Bowls, and winning 3 of them. I put them at #10, with the Raiders and Cleveland sliding behind them.

I tend to agree with the Browns getting too much love. To have never even played in a Superbowl and be ranked so high as a franchise defies logic. I'm guessing they relied heavily on the Pre Superbowl Franchise records, but then I need to question the 49ers being ranked so high. Sure they have 5 titles, but they were crap for a long time prior and have been crap for a long time since.

The biggest snub that stood out to me was the Bills.

26 really???

There is a lot of history with that team, going back to Kemp and OJ moving up to the Kelly days and even Flutie. The greatest playoff comeback. 4 straight SB.

side note: If I were Ray Lewis I would be pissed.....they couldn't find another picture other than one for his mug shot

Really a no brainer: the inept Patriots organization rose from obscurity in 2001 and then ended the season with a walk-off field goal in a 20-17 victory over the “Greatest Show on Turf” Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. It’s considered by most one of the great upsets in Super Bowl history and the shocker set in the motion the wheels of the first NFL dynasty of the 21st century.

I am not sure this is right. While it may be are most cherished Patriot moment was it not better when we held the trophey for the third time in 4 years being only the second team to do that.

I have to go with CHFF on this one. No one gave the Pats a chance in that game. We were favorites for the third Superbowl. However, if we get number 4 next year that one will be very sweet after the last year we had to go through.
