Into the mind of Matt Walsh:
Most of the time it's just a little fib I tell. It seems harmless! As a teenager I worked for the park service picking up trash, on my resume I call it "recreation management"
In college I didn't play sports. That doesn't look good though. I love sports! Hmmm.., I'll add a few lines to my resume.
I was a video grunt for 3 years, and it looks bad that I didn't advance. I call myself a "scout" on the resume for that third year. By all means I hide the fact I was fired.
While I was with the Patriots, my friends are all impressed that I worked there. The team captured the attention of the whole region, gradually. I had never been involved in organized football at any level, but I thought it would impress my friends, so I told them that the coaches were coming to me for important information. It's absurd, since I was always the bottom-of-the-rung video guy, and sometimes there wasn't even much for me to do. That story wouldn't have impressed people much, though.
The whole area became delerious- the Patriots won the Super Bowl as huge underdogs to the Rams. I wanted to spin things so that I could paint myself as a hero. I told quite a few people that I taped the Rams walkthrough practice and gathered info that helped the Patriots win. Yes, I was a hero! I showed them how Marshall Faulk was practicing kick returns! Just a fib. But unfortunately the people I tell it to didn't all forget, and a couple of them even believed me. Years later, one of them talked to John Tomase from the Boston Herald. Oops...
Some of these fibs have been in my head so long I've convinced myself they are real. The coaches sought me out. They needed me! The players praised me, and I was essential.
The Rams walkthrough thing just now became big, though. I know I'll have to admit that it never happened. I'll say I don't know where that story came from. I was with other people who know the truth. So what that I lied before. In my mind, though, it was just a little fib. The others I can still cling to. I was important. They needed me!
So what that I got caught in this mess. Nobody's going to string me up. Senator Specter likes me! He got me a $500/hour lawyer to help me out. Boy I'll lay it on real thick with Specter, since he'll perk up so much hearing about my fantastic story about lending advise directly to coaches to win big games. I'll tell him all about the no-huddle offense (and hope I remember enough jargon to fool the Senator into thinking I know what I am talking about!).
Life is good. I play golf in Hawaii. Sure I mow the grass mostly, but I'm good at that, and it is OK with the owners that I call myself a "golf pro". Big time golfers vacation there and play the course some time. I tell my friends I help the golf pros like Tiger and Phil with their swing. Actually I once in a while bring them drinks at the 10th hole. Not Tiger. Michelle Wie once. I talked to her though... we are practically friends!
Important.
Yes, I'm important, and with each re-telling I believe it a little more myself!
You should forward this to every newspaper Columnist in New England and maybe then they would understand what We are dealing with.

Is this Matt Walsh, because this is SO right on the money, it's scarey. You laid it out, I bet, like it actually went down. It doesn't matter who this "fibs" hurt at this point, because 118 year old Senator Specter things I'm honest and honorable.
Re: Inside the mind of Matt Walsh: The truth behind "Fabri-gate"
Well Done!
He also tapes the audio of all his conversations with said celebrity golfers and their conversations with each other while he is carrying their clubs and bringing them drinks. A little splicing here and a little splicing there and by golly, he has some audio of a great conversation between him and Tiger.
