Veterans Chris Harris and Brandon Meriweather are expected to be benched in favor of Major Wright and rookie Chris Conte for Sunday’s game against the Vikings, according to multiple team sources. Wright and Conte are expected to get the first-team reps at strong and free safety, respectively, during Thursday’s practice.
Quote:
Meriweather played a bit reckless throughout the game, opting for big hits rather than wrapping up for the tackle. The former New England Patriot seems to be having a tough time adjusting to a new defensive system.

Given Lovie's comments about changing things up, it's not a surprise that he's switching out his safeties. I thought Harris was much worse than Meriweather in that game, but neither player covered themself in glory.

Where are all the folks who long and pine for Meriweather with their 20-20 hindsight????
He will be out of the league by next year, and just a memory.
No one ever claimed he was great. Every pat fan knows he was not very good, but he was the best of a bad bunch. Are you going to try and claim sergio brown or barrett are better.
I don't think even BB thought the jokers we have now ARE better than Meriweather. I do think, however, that he thought he could coach them up and that they COULD BE better than Meriweather.

I actually thought Meriweather would excel in a Tampa 2 defense. Granted I have since read that the Bears don't run a true Tampa 2. Possibly the undisciplined style of the Tampa 2 or Tampa 2 hybrid just causes Meriweather to play even dumber than he did here making him regress even more. It also could be that the Bears' defense just stinks and the safety position is just being the scape goat.
I was never upset they let him go. I was am upset they didn't get a legitimate starter next to Chung, but Meriweather was never the choice I wanted. Sanders made a good play or two this past week (although he isn't lighting the world on fire in Atlanta). Would have much rather kept him.
