I know he was a good player here, but I guess i never thought of him as a HOF player, or even a Pats HOF player. His stats are ok, but he did play in a 3-4 so you could say his #s were great for a 3-4 end. I dont think he'll be in anytime soon (after retirement) though. There's alot of players I would put in before him.

I think you have an idea and are trying to pretend reality fits it.

But please don't tell me that getting penetration means nothing if it just so happens the team is fortunate enough to have a run called in the other direction (or that you could do it). That's nonsense. He's a DT. He's not an weakside DE on a zone read where he'll get a free rush. If he knifes through the line, it means he beat our guard and/or center - not because they just sort of let him through. That's ridiculous.
I am not 'bashing' him I am discussing what he did.
He made almost no plays. To say 'he got penetration' is to try to put a positive spin that isnt quantifiable on a poor perfermance.

What I could never figure out was when the Pats lost with Seymour on the team, many on the board would complain about how he had a bad game, but once he got traded it was like "Oh no, no Seymour, we are doomed"...

This offseason, it's almost like Belichick is saying, "I'm never going to let that happen again."

Loved that 1st quarter. Dick was like a rooster on speed.
Highly unusual for Dick to be that motivated without a $$contract$$ on the line.

My gut feeling about the Brady take down is that Seymour channeled all his anger at the Patriots organization in that play and it was his INTENTION to take Brady out. Brady was saved when Seymour became aware of the blatancy of his actions and took some of the force off that hit.
I would love to hear what Brady was saying as he was getting up afterwards. Clearly pissed off

I think Seymour psyched himself out with the big penalties on the first drive and never really got his rhythm back the rest of the game. Tossing Brady to the ground after the play had obviously been blown dead for several seconds was over the top and then he overcompensated by blatantly grabbing that face mask in the pile a few plays later. I only saw him close to the point of attack once or twice after that, on one of which he was Offside, as someone else observed.

Even the idiot announcers (who spent most of the first half praising Jason Campbell as though he were a candidate for Canton for "shredding" the Patriots defense) recognized that Richard was playing with too much emotion at the beginning.

In a manner of speaking letting his emotions ultimately get in the way was Richard's undoing here. There were certain slights and perceptions and concerns he could never seem to let go of or get past - on or off the field.
