According to The Smoking Gun, the pats are still going for a 19-0 Trademark.

I don't approve if they did do this (not that anyone cares).

As a fan, it was a lot of pressure and brutal down the stretch. I can't imagine what it was like for the players and staff.

2038 - the Toronto Bills are going for 19-0. To sell stuff the need to pay the Krafts. The Krafts learned this when they wanted to sell stuff with three-peat in 2005 and the Lakkers owners or someone had that trademarked.

This is only a bussiness thing

The trademark process takes forever. Now that they have started it and already invested in the associated legal fees, they may as well see it through.

Maybe they are doing it so that the Kraft enterprise can sell the rights to a team if some else ever does it in the future. If the Jaguars do it in 2013, the Patriots can sell the rights them for 10 or 12 million, for example.

It is nothing but a business decision.

Pat Riley owns the trademark for Threepeat. His Laker team lost the series that would have given them their third consecutive title. The Chicago Bulls later did it twice, the Yankees did it, and later the Lakers and all had to pay Riley royalties to use the phrase.
