WHY NO PATS IN WEEK ONE PRIME TIME?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 1, 2008, 8:02 a.m.
So we’re listening to Man-Girl & Meatball in the Morning and they’re trying to suggest that the NFL left the New England Patriots off the Week One slate of prime time games because of the lingering questions involving Spygate, I and/or II.
Both of them seem to be convinced that the move was the sole result of the issue that so many in the media seem to be hoping will become a huge story.
While they might be right (after all, there’s a first time for everything), we think that the omission has more to do with the fact that no team can appear in prime time more than six times in a single season. Why burn one of the appearances in Week One, when we’ll all flock to watch a Packers team without Brett Favre play a Vikings teams with Brooks Bollinger, and then we’ll chase it with three hours of Broncos-Raiders?
So there’s simply no reason to waste an appearance in prime time from teams like the Patriots or the Cowboys (the two biggest regular-season draws in 2007) during the first week of the season, when (as we all proved last year) we’d even watch the 49ers and the Cardinals, a game that generated only one real highlight.

I watch M&M in the morning, every morning -- and I have to say that "Man-Girl" will come up with ANY reason to try to bash the Pats or try to come up with some controversy against the Pats. It's so ridiculous. When he went to commercial break and said that when he saw the prime time games schedule for week 1 he said he didn't think it was a coincidence that the teams picked were picked -- so during the break I thought to myself "none of the teams that are playing each other really have a storyline -- I'm sure he's going to pull the Pats into this somehow" ---- and low and behold. I'm glad PFT called them out.

There is one thing to be said in Greenberg's defense: at least he freely admits he hates the Pats because he's a JEST fan.

What does this board have against Mike and Mike. I watched it and he was actually having more of a WTF? attitude about it. They were both saying that it didn't make sense that the team that sets viewing records wouldn't open in primetime. Then they specualted that maybe the NFL wants to take the focus off of them.
Greeney is a Jets fan but he ALWAYS gives the Pats their due. I don't get why thsi board hates them so much. he's allowed to root for a team as much as you and I are.
That show is a joke, they take no calls and make up emails. Have a freaking sponsor for everything, interrupt guests to do the corporate line. Half the time one of them is not there. No thanks anymore, I will listen to Sirius NFL radio or stream weei.

Greeney has made some stupid quotes about BB, that is why. A few years ago he stated that BB refused the shake Shanahan's hand after the loss at Denver, which was patently untrue, he insists on perpetuating the myth that BB has no friends and never has a light hearted moment, which anyone who pays attention knows to be another highly false characterization. I listen sometimes but most times what makes me turn them off is not so much Greeney's blatant hostility towards and disdain for BB, but more their silly/stupid schtick that takes up the time that could be better used talking about sports. They are okay in small doses but Greeney just totally buys the media viewpoint of BB as a hermetic ogre, instead of listening to his press conferences for the absolute gems that BB will throw out, or listening to the people who actually know him discuss what he is like as a human being.
I like Golic, but his brother would be much better on that show.
I cant stand Greenberg because hes such a girly-man. But I actually enjoy the fact that he is the most public Jet fan in the world and is clearly tortured by the Patriots.
so lets get this straight......Need phone calls from moronic callers like EEI gets all the time......have no sponsors...bring in no money....((from the largest money maker in the business in ESPN)) ? That's what you want? You actually like EEI for the CALLERS? Dude, get out of the basement and enter the world. The callers are the WORST part of sports-talk radio! Holy *****! And btw, remember, they don't have commercials like other stations do because they go to EVERY station. They have to give the sponsors in the show (just like all other ESPN Radio shows) because there's only 1-2 minutes of commercial time before the local stations add in there commercials.
