Default NFL looking to ban long hair flowing from helmets - Are you for it or against it?

On the NFL Network earlier this week Adam Schefter reported that the NFL is looking to likely ban all flowing hair which hangs down in the back of the helmet and covers the name and their number in some circumstances.

Maroney may need to cut back those locks a bit and of course we all know the guy with the biggest locks is Troy Polamalu or Rashaen Mathis so its going to be an unpopular choice with some of the guys in today's league.

This banning proposal may have been the result of the dangerous tackle Larry Johnson made on Polamalu a season back by yanking him awkwardly down by his hair.

Are you for it or against the likely ban?

Incredibly stupid, incredibly petty. I don't even know where to begin.

If I were a player, I'd tell the NFL to f itself.

On one hand, it's pretty stupid. On the other hand, if it actually does hinder officials and put players in danger, then I guess it's fine. Don't really care one way or the other.

I can see having a ban on not blocking the number on their back. But, since it's legal to grab them by the hair I say grow it out.

While I don't think the long hair flowing from players helmets looks good I couldn't care less how long it is.

I don't think the NFL should ban it but if I ever hear about a player complaining because he was yanked down by his hair and injured I would just laugh and say cut it then.

No need to cut the hair. Just keep it wrapped up inside the helmet. It would be a stupid rule though.

That is an idiotic idea, for god sakes don't they have better things to do.. if a player wants long hair, he assumes the risk.. no big deal..

ridiculous...let the spirit of the game live on. i'm a big skeptic of the slippery slope, if they ban long hair what else will they ban?

The NFL can do whatever it wants. This is only an issue between them and the NFLPA. I would think this would have to be included in the next contract round, though. If I were a player, I'd oppose it just for the sake of avoiding the slippery slope. I won't happen, IMO, but I could care less.

I think it's a great idea, for practical reasons: it can help protect a player from serious injury if he's yanked down by the hair from the back, and in some cases the player's name is covered up on the back of his jersey. Plus, it just looks like crap -- very sloppy. I can't understand why a football player would want really long hair to begin with. I'm surprised the league waited so long to consider doing something about it.
