Rumors of interest in Shawn Alexander for the Patriots - New England Patriots Forums

On Sirius radio they were discussing the rumor talk and possibility of New Enlgand having some serious interest in Shawn Alexander who is all but gone from the 'Hawks.

While I think Shawn still has some good years left in him I don't think that RB is a need for the team right now unless the FO and BB think Maroney won't improve or be the main guy with 25+ carries a game and if they make that move for Alexander I will assume that Maroney and Morris is not enough,But I just don't see a need for him right now,I think this team will once again be pass happy offense in 2008 and just need some decent play from Maroney/Morris combo

- Forget about a steal contract because I expect Alexander to want some decent $$$ in the FA market which is another reason why I don't expect the team to be overly aggressive for Alexander's services.

Unless Shawn Alexander is looking to do one SB run, raise his value and move to other team year after, I don't know if it would be worth it. Unless he signs for minimum, I can't see how he can possibly have a role on this team when we got Morris, Maroney, Faulk and Evans. If he does agree for one year minimum type of deal, I say bring him in but if not, forget it.

Deal with what ? What's wrong with Shaun Alexander (not that I think he's coming to NE but . . . )

Here's a good article about Shaun's situation and prospects. He can't even be released yet because he's nursing a wrist injury. He may indeed struggle to find a system fit, and he's not gonna see much guaranteed money. The Seahawks will be absorbing a several million dollar or so dead cap hit over the next two years to opt out of a 6 year $62M deal they just signed him to 2 years ago...

Their concern in extending him dating back to 3 years ago was a concern he would go soft once extended. He played so well under the tag in 2005, and coming off a trip to the Superbowl, they went ahead and extended him. Have regretted it ever since...

Maroney isn't the dominant rb that some people seem too think.

It's obvious.

If the money is right, it might be a good idea.

i think we tend to forget as time passes, but i remember when the Pats ran the ball the last couple of games and into the playoffs...Maroney ran great IMO and is a threat in the passing game. Unless something is majorly wrong with Sammy, then these Alexander rumors are just that, rumors.
