Lightbulb Charting Stevan Ridley's Rushing Attempts

Charting Stevan Ridley's Rushing Attempts
By: Ian Logue

Going over some numbers this morning, and thought I'd include a breakdown of Stevan Ridley's rushing attempts for anyone out there who wants to take a closer look at what the rookie's done through two games....

Patriot Missile and Nikolai like this.

Very useful. Almost 5 yards per carry, average. I think we're going to be very happy with him.

I did notice that his average was much better on second down than first, though a small sample size.

Down...................attempts..........yards.... ...........avg
First.....................20...................66. ...................3.3
Second.................7....................67.... .................9.6
Third...................1.......................4. ......................4.0
Fourth .................2.....................3.......... .............1.5

I just added that, and it looks like you may have missed some yards on first down:

Total 1st down rushes: 20 carries – 74 yards (3.7 avg)
Total 2nd down carries: 7 carries – 67 yards (9.57 avg)
Total 3rd down carries: 1 carries – 4 yards (4.0 avg)
Total 4th down carries: 2 carries – 3 yards (1.5 avg) - 1 Turnover

Total Through 2 games: 30 carries 148 yards

No worries though - I did the same thing and had to add it up a few times before it came out right as well.

Great, great compilation of information. The analysis geek in me loves to see this stuff.

I notice in the TB game, it was feast or famine. There were two 20+ yarders and a number of times he got stuffed. But I really do like his style; one cut and go. His top gear is faster than I expected, based on a lot of the draft talk.

“On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson..they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

Ridley is a fine addition. He would be expected to look like a star, playing against scrubs. He did.

Didn't Ridly face Tampa's 1st team D in the 1st half of preseason game 2?
I think Ridley is capable of more than just mopping up against second stringers.
He's shown an unexpected ability to make big playes - 6+ rushes of 20 yards or more in 2 games, and a better than advertised ability to catch the football. Ridley is beginning to look like a 3rd round steal. The last great RB the Pats drafted in the 3rd round had the initials CM. Just keep that in mind.

Ridly did not face the Tampa one's, but he did face the Jacksonville ones. The Jacksonville ones didn't play for the whole half, but he sure did look good against them. The kid is a keeper.
