MOSS STAYING PUT?

Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that receiver Randy Moss is "signed, sealed, and delivered" to remain in New England.

There has been no official word from the team of any deal.

On Thursday, the Panthers emerged as an unlikely potential candidate for his services.

As someone who's very familiar with Sid Hartman, take this "news" with a HUGE grain of salt. Sid is very well known in the Twin Cities and his scoops have gotten less reliable as the years have went on. He's an older guy who's been writing for the paper for ages. I'd be very surprised if Sid would be the first with the scoop on a Moss deal. I still hold out hope that the AOL report was correct and that the Pats are just waiting until morning to make an announcement.

For those that don't know, Sid is the guy who got the "I play when I want to play" quote from Moss years ago.

I'll take your advice on this one.

hmmm...I dont invest too much into this yet. Interesting that the Panthers are interested. Maybe Randy should call up Steve Smith and ask what it's like to be a talented receiver in Carolina. please. I'm still a little surprised there wasnt a deal in place...I really am. I'm not sure what to make of it. I guess Moss really wants to see how high other offers go. He deserves that. This whole Moss situation is turning out really strange.

I gotta say, I'm really disapointed this morning. I fully expected to wake up to news that Randy re-signed and we could shift the focus to other needs. Now, I have no idea what to expect. Very frustrating. My personal feeling is that the longer he is a FA, the less I'm expecting him to come back. I'd really like for Belioli to get this completed today.

I agree that regardless of what happens with Moss, I am disappointed with the way the Patriots have handled this.

I think it was a big mistake not to us ethe franchise tag.

That would have greatly facilitated the chances of signing him.

Honestly, put yourself in his position.

He is 100% a free agent now and he has an opportunity to make up for his relatively low salary last year.

Is it possible that the JETS could swoop in, for example, and blow his socks off with an offer the Patriots could not match???

the one thing that makes me leary of this "news", aside from what others have said about the author, is that in the story, it just seems like a throw away line. Kind of like a "gut-feeling" type of piece of news. Wish there were some details. I clicked on the link courtesy of of PFT and there isn't even a detail of a single year deal, 2 year, multiple year deal. It's like it got mixed in with Bob Ryans cleaning out the desk drawer columns!

Well he does want to play for a contender...so that severely limits his options...and that means, no Jets. I believe that most GM's and head coaches probably see what everyone else sees. Randy was able to reach full potential with a QB like Tom Brady. Steve Smith and Randy Moss would be fun in NE together...but not in Carolina with Jake or their QB circus. Jags have already nailed a couple of other receivers...stilll the biggest threat IMO to nab Randy. Also hoping that BB and SP and Krafty get this closed today if we do plan on keeping him.

I said this right after the deadline to franchise players passed and I'll say it again: there is NO WAY the Pats would have not put the franchise tag on him if they didn't have a deal in the drawer. Why let him go for nothing if they could force a team to give up a first and a third for him? The Patriots didn't become the team of the century by being stupid.
