they dont really update weights for veterans that often in NFL but most of these guys are probably over or less than what they are listed as. For all we know, Vilma could've bulked up this year. Besides..like i said @ another board. BB doesnt eliminate players that are light in weight. Hes shown interest in Vilma & Sims in the drafts, He offered a contract to a 5"11 230 lb LB who has far less speed than either. He said something when we played Lions like "I think a guy like Sims can definitely play in a 3-4, theres ways around size, if you work hard, prepare well and really love the game, you can do it."
Izzo is a Special Teamer, nothing more.

Size is not the end all but it's a pretty necessary component in the 3-4. Time will tell, but I don't think Vilma gets near the Pats.

One key aspect that people always overlook when people talk about does he fit in our system.

We have several guys that fit like a glove. I think putting four guys of Vilma's size in 3-4 would not work but if three guys are perfectly fit for it and the fourth guy is someone like Vilma who is an incredible athlete than it can work.

By the way for those hoping....no way the Jets trade him to the Pats

could be possible if Mangini is as stupid as we think. he'll think to himself "i am as good as coach as Belichick, he didnt work here, were ripping them off!"

No chance.

Only way, and I'd agree this is about .002%, would be if the Pats went behind the back of the Jets to some other team, and told them to get him for their 3rd, and the Pats would then grab him for the Raiders 3rd, but there are cap implications probably that makes that highly unlikely.

Maybe in a few years after his rookie contract runs out.

I would just wait until he gets released. What team is going to want to trade for Vilma with his history of injuries? With that said, I would take a chance on him, he is still young. Also, he would be playing in front of a better D-Line (New England) than in New York. That could help.

I caught the trail end of the ESPN ticker that said something about '..... Vilma to seek trade partner, except for the Patriots.'

"Two sources with ties to Vilma said the 2004 first-round pick has permission to shop his services to 30 of the league's teams, but not the Patriots."

Weird. If he's good enough to be scared of trading him to us then Mangina should be able to get something out of him. How can this be read other than "New England's coaches are better than ours and we know it".

Haha, Mangina is scared of what Vilma will do with a real D-Line playing in front of him.
