1. Sign Moss to a multi-year extension: Having Moss and Brady on the same team will be the best WR QB combo for years to come, means to much to the entire team to let him go after one year.
2. Having Bruschi and Seau come back: I know there old but I think they still can be effective in a limited role just as they were last season. I doubt its just me but I still feel both could have a good impact on the team.
3. Get the Zach Thomas deal done: I think he would be a good addition, hes a very smart instinctive player, I know hes not the ideal size for our defense but people have been telling him hes too small since coming of out college and look at him not hes a hall of fame LB. I think hes a player that could thrive in any system you put him in.
4. Get the other former Dolphin Marty Booker signed: Although I prefer Stallworth over Booker, we could get Booker at a cheaper price. Hes not the threat Stallworth is but he can be effective as a #2 WR, hes had a solid career without having a top knotch QB, he has good hands makes tough catches and could be a nice compliment to Moss.
5. Bring Rosey back (at a cheaper salary): Now if hes willing to restructure his contract I say bring him back, he knows our system, good at getting pressure on the QB, and will provide good depth that we missed last year when he went down for the season... just needs to stay healthy.
6. Let Asnate go: I think hes a really good corner first and foremost so dont get me wrong and Id love to see him in a Pats uniform next year, just not at the price that hes going to be asking for.
7. The draft: Since Iam assuming Asante's gone and weve shore up the LB postion with the aquisition of Thomas and the re-signing of Colvin, I would first try and trade down a couple of spots to about 10 in the draft and draft Aqib Talib or Leodis McKelvin since our biggest need would be a CB to replace Samuel.
Ok now picture this, a rotation of Bruschi, Seau and Thomas on the inside and even Thomas, and a rotation of Vrabel, Thomas and Colvin on the outside. I know this could be a little risky but our rookie on Asantes Side and Hobbs on him normal spot.
On offense, Moss, Booker and Welker would still be a dangerous and effective combo especially with the best QB thrwoing to them. Dont forget the return of Sammy Morris to help bloster the backfeild.
What would you guys think of this scenario took place?

Re: This offseason scenario would be a success to me
Bringing in Zack Thomas alone is not going to improve the LB situation or the defense in general. The Pats need to get younger and faster on defense. As shown throughout the season, their blitzes were ineffective and allowed medicore QB's too much time in the pocket. Too many times their blitzes were getting stoned at the line of scrimmage. Bringing in younger, faster and possibly stronger players will help. The secondary needs some more muscle as well. I think Samuel is a good player, but he is soft. He gives recievers way to much cushion and I hardly ever saw him play bump coverage. However, he does lay some big hits every once in awhile. Hobbs is another story. With that said, my ideal offseason was going after Terrell Suggs but he was franchised. Whether or not the Pats acquired Suggs, I still want the Pats to draft Vernon Gholston. The Pats need more aggressive pass rushers on the inside and outside. Then I would like the Pats to draft inside LB's and help in the secondary. The majority of this draft needs to be defense. In terms of free agents, sign some guys like Victor Hobson if he can play inside. It would be an instant upgrade over the guys backing up Bruschi and Seau. But who knows if Bruschi and Seau are coming back? If they do, they will have a limited role. The Pats need to start finding replacements and move on.
My prediction: Remember the defense in 2002? It needed a major overhaul. I'm not saying that this Pats defense is that bad but they need to make changes. The Pats offense dictates the way the defense performs. More times than not, if the offense plays well, the defense plays well. If the offense struggles....well you saw the last 2:30 of the superbowl. You will see two new starters at LB and 3 new starters in the secondary (Replacement for Samuel, free agent signee taking over for Hobbs, Sanders moving over to strong safety and Merriweather as the thrid new starter at FS). I think the Pats will utilize him more as a playmaker, allowing him to roam around and play centerfield. Hopefully he will work on his hands
