The Pats and Cowboys are obviously the favorites and I'm sure Rosenhaus advised Zach that even though he more than likely wanted to accept the Pats offer, that it would be in his best interest to atleast finish what he intended to do and honor those already scheduled visits. When all the offers come in it will come down to his homestate (Cowboys) or the Pats both of whom have legitimate SB hopes next season which as he stated is what he's looking for.

The key statement is sentence #2 from Schefter in bold.

"The Patriots offered a contract to former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas on Monday, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Thomas and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, visited New England on Monday and will continue negotiations with the team. Thomas is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday."

If he visits other teams after an offer from the Pats, he probably won't be accepting it.

Didn't AD, Washington, and Stallworth all visit with other teams last offseason?

I know his visiting other teams increases the odds of his signing elsewhere (duh), but that doesn't mean he's not going to end up signing with NE when all is said and done. I also wouldn't say it means NE's offer wasn't good enough, just that he's keeping his scheduled visits.

Did he cancel his initial visit with the 49ers? I can't remember now. I remember some 49ers writer saying something like "Thomas is supposed to visit with the 49ers today", but I can't remember if he made that visit. I thought he made one visit with the 49ers, and quickly decided he wanted to sign with NE directly after that visit? Maybe it was right after his Pats visit, and only hours before that scheduled 49ers visit? Can't remember.... I know Washington and Stallworth both visited with multiple teams though. I also know the 49ers were willing to pay AD more than NE.

Edit: I think I know why I got confused/couldn't remember the situation. AD was given an offer by the 49ers that was more than NE's offer. He turned that offer down because NE seemed like the better fit for him, and he wanted to stay on the east coast. So, even if he didn't visit with the 49ers he still turned down a better offer to sign with NE.

I think there's at least an 80% chance he comes here. Dallas has already said they don't really want to spend the $$$ and why would he want the Texans, Jets or Bills ... be serious... what free agent wants to play for Mangina the rat?

I do question how much Thomas is really worth at this point in his career.

I've no doubt someone would overpay for him - but I don't think even then we're talking about anything close to taxing a team that has average cap room.

I guess in some respects that makes me feel better, in that the Patriots could "overpay" him but relatively speaking they'd still not be sinking significant cap space into him.

In other words, this ain't the Adalius Thomas money we're talking about - its Zach Thomas.

Thomas is too old. Also, where would he fit in with Seau and Bruschi? They would make up the three oldest LB's in the league. I just don't see it happening. The Saints need Thomas more than New England. And why would Dallas want him? They are loaded at LB. I think the Colts would be a good fit for him.

Technically if Thomas signs here our depth chart is Z. Thomas and E Alexander, 1 and 2 respectively.

The key above is your conjunction -- my guess is it is "or" not "and."

If it is "or" than obviously Thomas makes a ton more sense when you are rotating him with one of Seau or Bruschi.
