Default Roth brought the heat in 2010

Only six 3-4 linebackers in the NFL brought more pressure that Roth last season:

Have to sneak in PFF references now?

Football Outsiders gave Roth fewer pressures than TBC (3.5 v 5 sacks, 7 hits each, 25 pressures each).

I can't understand why some people like him. He's been let go by two teams and has had very average stats. Unless you just want a body, I'd pass.

Because PFF, that rag of a publication said he's "wicked pissah".

I guess I'm glad to see someone else in the media who feels the same way I do about WR - just as in 2006 I've heard a great many people note how strong the defense is without a deep threat WR

And statistically they're correct

Quote:
2. Wide receiver -- The Patriots led the NFL in scoring last season (32.4 points per game) and tied their own record for most 30 point-games in a season with eight, but another weakness Rex Ryan's team revealed in January was the lack of a play-making third-receiver for the Patriots.
But in a game day situation, when you're up against a strong opponent, you don't want to give an opponent weaknesses like that to exploit, regardless of how the statistics average out over the previous 16 games.

I don't know who or whether Belichick is going to bring someone in or not but I'm really hoping we see a major improvement in performance in the deep game

Antonio Cromartie is the anti-deep threat. Pats need an intermediate threat opposite Branch more than a deep one.

I'm starting to think crowell is on PFF's payroll.

Define intermediate threat. Gronkowski and Hernandez can provide that intermediate threat for me. Someone like a Malcom Floyd (whose proven he can play as the one, the two or the three receiver and with a magnificent tight end) can provide the open field threat for the Patriots.

The issue is, can we sign 1. someone who can play as a reliable 3rd receiver and 2. is there any available? A lot of this is dependent upon your importance placed on the tight ends.

Intermediate = the 12-15 yard route tree

Dig, comeback, curl, deep out. Think Deion Branch for the Pats, or someone like Chad Johnson or Derrick Mason as an addition. I think Roddy White is the best example league-wide.

Floyd is a deep threat who lacks the foot quickness to run the routes I want.
