Default Patriots achieved all of their goals this year

What?

Let me explain.

I have heard over and over again what motivated this team was last years loss to the Colts in the AFCCG and wanting to avenge it.

I have heard over and over again that the "real super bowl" would be the AFCCG.

When Tom Brady was asked about 19-0 or 16-0. He responded the same nobody sets out to have a perfect season...the goals are win the division, earn home field for the playoffs, and hopefully get yourself in a position so you can go to the super bowl.

I would ask you to note that Colts-Pats game was dub SB 41-1/2.

I would ask you to observe that the Patriots play dropped not once the weather turned nasty but once they had clinched the AFC East. (Weather was bad for Bills game)

I would ask you to observe that in the Jax game the Patriot played very well and thought they were fighting for the right to play the Colts in the AFCCG.

So what were the Patriots goals:

Avenge loss of AFCCG - check win SB 41-1/2
Win the AFC East - check intensity drops.
Get to the AFCCG - check intensity jumps in Jax game
Get themselves to SB - check.

As George Bush would say, "Mission accomplished," but like GWB, BB's mission was not complete.

Dude, you are in denial.

Both have the same effect, but Manning transcends measurable human intellect while Brady merely chooses a different play.

Goal #1- win the super bowl.
result: failed.
Ellis Hobbs: "We didn't accomplish what we set out to accomplish."

End of story.

I'm shocked anyone would propose that the Pats met their goals this year.

I am not in denial, I think the whole motivation all season long was to beat the Colts in the AFCCG. Once the Colts got knocked out of the AFCCG, the engine ran out of steam.

I'm spoiled so any season without a Super Bowl win is a failure to me. That's what you set out to do, and every year 31 teams fail. That's the way it is.

However, there is some truth to the idea that a lot of these players were pumped up to avenge their Colts loss last year. That's their rivalry lately. I think it was a small factor, but you can't expect the kind of intensity that accompanies a rivalry to be shown against just any team.

I think Brady's injuries played a bigger factor in our last two games though...

I understood your argument. I still think you are in denial.

Their goal was to win the Super Bowl. Beating the Colts on the way was a corollary.

The goal has not been accomplished for the past three years. Stop denying it. We had a great year, of course, but we failed in our main goal.

Face it, we along with 30 other teams, were failures.

Now, this is the opposite extreme of craziness. It was a wonderful season. Going 18-1 is a lot more fun than going 1-15. They had a lot of fun, played a lot of great games this season.

Yes, it sucks that we didn't win the Big Game. That of course is the greatest goal, like checkmate. You aren't happy with a game of chess if you played great, were up a queen and a rook, but lose to a stupid move at the end of the game. But you can still be happy with your play in the rest of the game. It's a lot different than playing horribly and losing in 8 moves.

They played a great season, fell one game short of the biggest achievement in the history of the NFL, and will do even more construction in the off season, making us even better. I don't see us getting worse next year.
