Default So.. which is the best Patriots team of all time now??

We had all assumed it was this team...

But they didnt win the Super Bowl.

So I have to say, no. This totally changes my thinking on it.

1. 2004 Patriots. Had Corey Dillon played at Pittsburgh and had Tom Brady just not thrown that pass falling down in Miami, THAT team may have gone 19-0. There defense was much better than this team. What it had was balance and they stepped it up in the biggest games.

2. 2003 Patriots. 15 straight wins. Awesome defense.
3. 2001 Patriots. They were better than the 2007 team because they won the Super Bowl. They were like the Giant team that beat the Patriots on Sunday.
4. 2007 Patriots
5. 1976 Patriots

if the 2007 Pats play the 2004 Pats....2007 wins

so, 2007

if you want to argue "which team achieved the most"...then 2004 or 2003 probably wins. 17-2 with a SB win is a better achievement than 18-1 with a SB loss. but those teams weren't as good as 2007, they just picked better times to lose games

This year's team was the most talented, and it's probably not close. Ultimately, they weren't the most successful, but I think they'll be remembered the longest.

I can't believe it's only been a year without Corey Dillion now.

We were the greatest team of all time for 18 games and 59 minutes.

I still can’t believe, a team that played with the 60 Minutes philosophy all season goes down like this.

Based on the talking heads on TV, only teams which win the SB count in the discussion for "great" or "best" etc...

Just look at the ongoing discussion - Brady vs Montana.... After the loss, Montana now stands alone as his SB record is 4-0 and Brady's 3-1

Well, by this standard, the 2007 team would rank last behind the teams which won the SB.... I think Tedy was asked this question before the SB and he replied without hesitation that those teams were better, because they won the grand prize.

End of discussion.

Moral of football : If you don't win the big one, you lost your place in line..

exactly, does anyone remember the 1968 Colts, 1998 Vikings, 1978 Red Sox, 1981 76ers as GREATEST OF ALL TIME type teams?

No, unfortunately, closing the deal and mental toughness in the last minute of a championship moment is what seperates the great teams. People will say, if Norwood makes the kick then the Bills are remembered as a great team. Well, the Bills should have played a better game before that or else had a kicker that would make the kick. the 1986 Sox were one strike away. Yes, but its their own weakness of having a mediocre bullpen and a stupid manager keeping his injured first baseman out there....

there are reason teams lose championships. that last drive by the defense was a timebomb waiting to happen all year.
