Default A deal getting closer???

Here is another report on the progress of the lockout talks.

NFL owners and players face owners face stumbling blocks before reaching a new CBA - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

I hope that this is correct and the remaining issues get resoloved very soon.

I had picked 7/15 as the date that I start to get really, really mad if not deal has been reached. I may even send a strongly worded email to both the NFL and NFLPA if this continues past this coming weekend.

I don't know, at times it sounds like it's inching closer on paper but getting farther away in fact...

ESPN's news about a plan for the owners to vote to ratify a new agreement on the 21st IF ONE EXISTS BY THEN is an interesting development. That they have reportedly already agreed on certain terms relative to how the timetable would progress thereafter is most interesting. The early TC's would be impacted since they were scheduled to open on the 22nd and under the proposed timetable veteran FA won't even commence for a week. I kinda of doubt camps will open absent the opening of the FA period. Initial TC roster limits would be increased to 90. Teams would have a three day window in which to sign their own FA and a three day window to match RFA tenders. It would be like the Indy 500 version of an off season jammed into one week...

As to this article, I think they may be a tad off on some of their takes. The owners are not looking to increase veteran FA, it's currently 6 years, used to be 4 years and rookie deals used to be 6 years max and then 6/5 depending on top or bottom of round 1. 5 max for top tier rookie deals insn't an increase. 4 max for all draftees would be a huge decrease. If they end up there owners should insist that players don't get to hold out in a contract year... And players need to stop parroting De's misrepresentation of what a career or veteran status entails. The average lst rounder plays 9 years. The average pro bowler plays 11. The average player who makes a roster plays for 6 seasons...

That 3.5 year career average the NFLPA keeps feeding folks includes players who had a cup of coffee at a training facility but never made a roster. Everyone needs to cut the rhetoric and NEGOTIATE a balanced deal that works well enough for the majority of participants on both sides of the argument.

There also seems to be a problem percolating just below the surface as far as the settlement of the class action suit, with Kessler again reportedly instigating for the class to be petition the court to be certified which would apparently allow him to keep one foot inside the courtroom door...the league has to miss a season in order for the treble damages to kick in...

Wrapping up class action continues to be a potential impediment | ProFootballTalk

The devil as always remains in the details. And even if it costs them games, exhibition or actual, I think it's far more important they get a sustainable deal done now rather than a piecemeal deal that lands them back in court regularly as well as facing another offseason of this crap in another 6 years.

Well if they don't reach a deal by 7/21, I may start to protest. I may take my Patriots club head covers off my golf clubs and have them naked in my golf bag. It won't be pretty.

This process reminds me of Zeno's paradox

Hilarious! I think by mid August at the earliest...if it goes to mid sept, then the season is probably lost.

It would be kind of tragic to waste a healthy year of brady in one of his last years....maybe he'll play an extra year. I'm still counting on 3 more SBs.

If there no deal by the end of this week, is there still going to be a training camp with public access? We've been driving from NJ to Gilette for the past 4 years now for their training camp.

I thought 7/15 would be the because that was the date Kraft gave to start selling individual game tickets.

My concern is that the owners and players have seemed to leave wrapping up the details of the deals with the freakin' LAWYERS. This is a huge mistake. Forget about the obvious conflict of interest with a guy like Kessler in the room, Lawyers by nature tend to get caught up arguing about the small "details" any issue.

The players and owners left the room too early. They need to get back to the table, settle the small issues that continue to separate them and get a deal done. When ALL the issues have been agreed to, THEN the lawyers can do what they do best, which is to turn 10 pages of information into 10 INCHES of legalese.

BTW-anyone notice that ever since the lawyers have entered into the picture more and more "details" of the deal are coming to light.

I thought since the NFLPA lawyers signed onto a flat fee deal that the negotiations would be on a fast track.....

Lawyers by nature tend to get caught up srguing? What a canard! Take the lawyer fans posting here. Why they never argue about details ad nauseum.

FWIW (nothing) Patriots emailed ST holders that their tix are in the mail to arrive this week.
