i mean, of course the city has to planned in advance, but cant we do this behind closed doors? this is the only year in which i can remember parade details coming out before a championship game(red sox or pats).
this just gives the giants a little more motivation. if you watched the 2004 super bowl dvd, you saw how belichick used the details of philadelphia's planned parade to motivate his team.

You do know that every team does this right? That both the Chargers and the Patriots had pre-orders for their AFC Championship gear before the game? That these things don't just "poof!" into existence the moment the game is over? And planning a parade is a lot of work. EVERY team maps out a route in case of victory. This is business as usual.

You don't think the Globe called him and asked about it? I'm sure Menino didn't go up to them and say "hey guys, let me tell you my secret plan for the Super Bowl parade."
Of course they have a plan. Bloomberg is planning one too, I promise you. You've got to arrange for street closures, duck boat reservations, overtime for cops, etc in advance. Just like with the book, these are things which are done in advance EVERY year, and it's no more a jinx this year than it has been in years past, and both cities are doing it.

As I said, the Globe probably gave the mayor's office a call for a comment, and he gave one. Hardly a huge secret that these things are planned in advance.
It's not like he held a press conference to announce it.

No, you don't get MY point. There were ads all over the internet so you could pre-order both Patriots and Chargers AFC championship shirts. PUBLIC ads. You give them your credit card and if your team wins, they charge you and send it out after the game. These things are ALL made public.
And who cares? Do you truly believe in a mythical Football God who is going to look down on the planning of a parade or a book and decide to smite the Patriots by forcing Brady to throw six picks? How does any of this affect the game?

Quite agree. I remember getting horrified just before last year's AFCCG when the old Boston Globe columnist whom I despise so much wrote something to the effect of planning a SB victory parade etc because of the way we defeated the Bolts. I got flamed here when I expressed that this was way too much for a team that prided itself on not giving anything to the opponent's bulletin board.
And now this...
I share your concerns fully: of course the league, the team and the city will have many plans but why have it mentioned? How many times in the Pats previous SB trips have we heard about these plans before the game was played??

Maybe there is one. I think a good % of us have seen/heard too many 'great' teams promise a victory and their cities plan a SB parade in public before the game and then the teams/cities humbled on game day.

you can pre-order super bowl championship hats and t-shirts too. thats nothing new. this is. this is the first time i can ever remember the parade details being released before a game, whether it be pats and red sox. i just dont like it.

There were discussions and mentions in the paper before the second and third SB's, you guys either weren't following the team very closely back then or...something. Mumbles has never been able to avoid answering media questions about celebrations lest his crucial role in the whole process as mayor of Boston be marginalized...
