Look, I know this is the media and they need to keep people interested. But give me a break. Simply stating that the Giants played with the Patriots in week 17, lost by only 3 points, Giants have won three on the road, Eli is all of a sudden all world is not reason to think the Giants can or will win. Did they watch the week 17 game? We put up 38 points on them, in the cold, on the road. Anyone remember the Patriot and Ram Super Bowl? NOBODY gave us a chance! Some were saying we would lose by 70. How is this different? We played the Rams earlier in the season, played them tough and only lost by 7. The pundits claim the Giants can win because they "almost" beat us. Well, we ALMOST beat the Rams...yet nobody gave said we were "confident" or would win...

Look. It is still Eli Manning. We were missing the right side of our line and still kept Tom Brady pretty clean.Maroney is now running effectively. The weather will not be a factor. The Giants beat: a weak Tampa team, a poorly coached Dallas team (which had every chance to win...sound familiar?), and a vastly overrated Green Bay team...erratic Brett Favre anyone? The Patriots beat the best rushing team in the NFL, Jacksonville, the "most talented team" in the NFL who just beat "the other best team in the NFL" and NOW the Giants are going to shock the world. All I am saying is back the freaking "guess/prediction" up with FACTS...please!
It is getting truly annoying.
It's called headlines.

They want people to think that the giants have a chance, and will watch the game.

Right and ...

this is a grand example of brainwashing. Say it enough times and many will
think it is true.

If you are talking about sirius NFL........ try to keep in mind. They are based in NYC and many of the hosts live and are based out of there and are closet Giant fans anyway.

Hell Bob Pappa is the Giants play-by-play guy. I've listened this week and it's all Giants all the time. I generally like it too. This week however, it has been leaning hard to the Giants.

I don't care who the mediots pick. The only thing annoying me of late is the constant talk of the Giants road game winning streak. And, how they've "won more road games than NE".

Yea, the Giants have won more road games than NE, only because NE didn't have to win their playoff games on the road!! last time I checked NE's won every game they've played this season, which seems just a little more impressive...

Of course, there's always the prospect of enhancing one's perception as a skilled analyst.

If they pick the Giants and they win, they're a genius who went against the stampeding herd. If they pick the Giants and they lose, so what they took a chance, it will soon be forgotten.

If they pick the Patriots, big deal, everyone expects the Patriots to win.

It's the same reason your favorite football writer, Michael Felger, has taken the now-vacated Ron Borges Chair in the College of Patriots Writers. Problem with him, though, is that he's not smart enough to pull it off with a straight face.
That was a good post!

What's gonna happen, should the Patriots win, is we'll see all these talking heads singing the Patriots' praises, dissecting the game to death, and completely and totally ignoring their rash predictions about a Giants' upset.

These guys predicting this upset is happening with rather stunning regularity, so much so that it almost appears to be "mainstream thought". Of course, as all we learned long ago, there is nothing "mainstream" about the mass media's thought processes, and what we're witnessing here is either another, more modern extraordinary popular delusion and madness of crowds, wishful thinking, or just simple whistling past the graveyard.

In any event, I look forward to the "analysis" put forth by these guys. Now that will be real entertainment!

Did you ever notice in the check out lines in the supermarket, they do not pimp good reading material, instead they focus on the sensational.. it is about conroversy and controversy drives ratings..

You sound like an '85 Bears fan who was wondering how anybody could have picked the Patriots.

Rule #1: People sometimes like the underdog.
Rule #2: There are upsets in the NFL.
Rule #3: 'Dynasties Suck' is the chant of the week.
