Default The Unspeakable Ring of Truth

Christopher ColinsWorth echoes my own thoughts exactly:

FP - Bold Prediction Time: When Will First NFL Game Be Played This Year?

Halloween, baby.

It's ALL too likely.

Bummer. As an outside observer, it seems unfathomable that either side would be willing to miss games, but I don't think either the players or the owners will budge from their demands until that becomes a more immediate reality. I guess the best we can hope for is a quick and decisive court ruling.

As an aside, how would a shortened season affect the competitive balance of the league? Would the Patriots have an advantage over other top teams?

You should concern yourself with more pressing matters vs. posting on a Patriots fan forum. Like, helping rectify the enduring profile of New Jersey Green Beans fans as foot fetish enablers (see: Wrecks, Jabba), condoners of teen-age drinking (see: Sanchez, Li'l Marky), perpetrators of extreme narcissism (see, Tomlinson, LaClassian), drug use (see, Holmes, Santonio), drunk driving (see, Edwards, Braylon), rampant promiscuity (see, Cromartie, Antonio), or verbal diarrhea (see, Scott, Bart).

How is that ironic, fan of the Jersey B-team? Irony refers to something conveying the opposite of what one would expect. The title refers to rings which we have 3 from 2001, 2003, and 2004.

Definition of Irony:
"the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend."

C'mon, Give the guy a break. He's still on a high from the Jests last SB victory in 1969.

You just helped me clarify something. I just realized my feelings towards "Spygater" types like you have evolved much the same way they have towards "9/11 Truthers". You know that feeling you used to get (and probably often still do) when you read some 9/11 Truther's nutty ramblings - rage, shock...rage. ? Well, now after all these years, I just look at the Truthers and think, "Wow, that's really pathetic and sad. They must miss out on a lot of joy in life." And now, that's what I think about Spygaters too! This has kind of been an epiphany! Thank you Jetophile dude!

(I know, I know: It won't happen again. )

BOTH the players and owners lost control of this thing the moment the sham decertification was enacted and left the responsibility to settle the issue to the court system. Unfortunately the court system is currently set up to maximize ONE THING.... Billable hours. Virtually ANY decision that CAN be reached is also appeal-able, hence the maximization of billable hours.....AND the lack of any final decision.

The LAWYERS who run both the league and the "union" have snookered BOTH sides into paying THEIR game on THEIR playing field, for THEIR benefit. If this game of brinkmanship continues to this sad and seemingly inevitable conclusion, who ever "wins" will win an empty shell and redefine the term "Pyrrhic Victory"

3 other points:

1,I found Collinsworth's column chillingly plausible.

2.The other was that I was very impressed by the quality of the comments he got. If you didn't read them, its worth the time.

3. After years of intimate knowledge of dealing with dregs of Jet nation (Yes, I was a troll on a Jets board for 10 years)

I left precisely because the prevailing mindset of too many posters who were exactly like the interloper who hijacked this thread. You see, in their misery most Jet fans have mutated into horrid creatures who have lost any joy in cheering on their OWN team and live only to wallow in the hatred of their betters. Hence you see the kind of instigation post that was presented/ One lacking any substance and geared only to spawn the defensive responses so readily given.

While I truly enjoy and encourage serious fans of other teams to post here, because they often bring refreshing insights and stimulating conversations; trolls like the one above have to be treated in ONLY one way. And that is to IGNORE them. Don't play the game, and they will disappear into the ether like they never existed. I was kind of disappointed that with one single line we were duped into his trap reacting like an unthinking reflex response, like when the doctor hits your knee with that rubber hammer. I sincerely hope in the future he will be treated like he deserves....with UTTER silence.
