I really don't think he was talking ***** or saying that the Pats are an easy opponent.
Who says you need to say they are an "easy" opponent? You don't. But just the fact a rookie is evaluating teams in his mind vis-a-vis how the Pats would be a better opponent for them than another team would be is stupid. You put words in his mouth he didn't say to change the meaning and suit your theory. He didn't say we "relish the opportunity".....he said they were "glad" while referencing matchups. Totally different. Its one thing to say you're excited to have the chance to play in the Super Bowl and happy to be playing in the game. Its another to imply the Pats are a better matchup for them than someone else may have been. Stupid.

it's a good thing that pats faces giants because BB knows this team well and i'm sure that he has a good plan.

To me the point isnt bulletin board material, the point is you have a guy who is busy convincing himself his team is as good as a team they clearly are not.
The reason you don't hear Patriots making comments like this is that they are LIVING the mentality that BB preaches, which is that this is going to be a very difficult team. BB goes out of his way to convince his team that the opponent is better than they might think. These type of comments are trying to convince himself that his own team is better, or the opponent is overrated.

How does that materialize as an effect on the game?
Very simple. PREPARATION. If you are preparing that you have a very tough opponent, and must play 60 minutes and play as well as you can to win, you prepare well. If, during your preparation, you are overly confident, you do not prepare as well.

As far as proof, Belichick is almost certainly the winningest coach in big games in NFL history. If his approach is to overestimate the opponent, and that is the result, I'd have to conclude that overestimating yourself and/or underestimating the opponent will detract from your big game performance.

I also do not believe this is bulletin board material. Worse has been said this year...a lot worse. I think everyone is making themselves believe this is such an outlandish statement. Whether he said it in the context of "avenging a loss" or meant to be "arrogant" doesn't matter...its not that controversial, no matter how you cut up the quote. What's next? Eli Manning states he's excited to play in the game against the Patriots and somehow his excitement reeks of arrogance? I just don't see it, I'm sorry. Should rookies shut their mouths? Yes. Is it something I'm fuming over or even upset about? Not really. You just can't pull the disrespect card on this team anymore. Their good fellas, their really good. I don't think anyone disrespects them. People know their good. They hate them.

But that is just my two cents...Between this "bulletin board material - disrespect card" stuff and the media field day with "bootgate", I just want this game to be played...lordy lord

IMO Boss had a very nice game against the Patriots so he can talk a little if he wants compared to if he stunk in the first meeting.

He is a nice little TE backup to the Giants and is playing well...give him a few props instead of trying to find something bad to say against this promising rookie.

I'll say this:

If a Patriot had said, "I'm glad we drew the Giants rather than the Packers," we would have wanted to kill the guy for being so stupid.

Nothing to see here, not sure why some of you getting so riled up over it. Personally, I am glad they're talking, chances of them saying something dumb is greater that way, but this is hardly something dumb.

I think it is funny, like if Chuck Norris was coming over to kick your butt, and you go on TV and say you are glad it's Chuck Norris coming after you. If you were Jet Li, fine, but your just SadMoFo, and it loses something, if you know what I mean.

Is anyone saying they should be flapping their gums? We're saying it's not a big deal because people like spacegrime () says it's a big deal.

This is just the sort of quote that players use as incentive.

Go click on sounds of the game at the NFL network. Last week's AFCCG contained a few references by players to things that were said in the media.
