Quote:
Patriots director of college scouting Thomas Dimitroff has reached agreement with the Atlanta Falcons to become their general manager, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported today.

The 2007 season was Dimitroff's sixth with the Patriots. He reported directly to vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli.

His primary job was to oversee a staff of area scouts responsible for evaluating all of the nation's eligible college prospects.
Congrats to him. Quite a promotion.

Default OT- Falcons have hired Patriots director of college scouting

Quote:
FALCONS HIRE DIMITROFF
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Falcons have hired Patriots director of college scouting Tom Dimitroff to be the new G.M. in Atlanta.

Dimitroff and Eagles G.M. Tom Heckert were considered to be the front-runners for the job.

The move most likely means that USC coach Pete Carroll is out of the mix for the head-coaching job, since Carroll most likely would have wanted to run the show.

We'll have more to say about this after the Saturday games. Live Blogs of both will be on the Beta version of the site.
A loss most certainly. but these are bound to happen when a team is so successful

Worse news for Dimitroff. He got the job nobody worth hiring wanted. Maybe he felt blocked here. McKay wants to remain in control of the franchise and it's owner from the executive suite, and looks like he found his mark. Although not succeeding in Atlanta with one hand tied behind your back will probably not scar you for life in the NFL. If they at least draft well now he will get kudos, and if they don't McKay will be blamed (and probably rightly)...

True, better than going to the Jets, or Miami.

eh.

Has their college scouting been particularly impressive the past two or three seasons?

They have one player on the roster from the 2007 draft of the nine drafted players.
The 2006 draft featured Maroney and Chad Jackson in the top two rounds - neither has come close to exceeding expectations.

Not too many gems in the later rounds lately either.

I'm fine with a new leader here.
