I think it is OK to give credit where it is due. Like BB will figure out their D, they also some times can figure out our D & O. The point is can we counter this next season.

Not really, Brady is like 2-3 vs the ryan jets. And he's like what? 1-5 vs the doncos?

First of all football is the ultimate team game. A phrase such as "Ryan has Brady's number" is extremely superficial; it's not like the NFL is a video game where each side is controlling one player and none of the other players has an impact. The Jets game plan had as much to do with the ten other Patriot players on the field as it did Brady.

Second, I would be hesitant to lump the Cleveland game in with this playoff loss. By all accounts the Patriots had their worst week of practice all year leading up to the game against the Browns, and came out flat. Yes, Cleveland did have a good game plan and I'll give them credit for that, but that loss was just as much on the Pats players themselves.

Third, if the Ryans had the Pats/Brady's number, how is it possible that the Pats beat them twice the last two years and are split 2-2 in the last four meetings?

Look, I'm more than willing to give the Jets and Ryan credit for their execution and game plan. But it is a bit of an over reaction to imply they any Ryan coached team has won or will win every time the two sides meet.

All of 5 of Bradys INTs this season came vs the Ravens style 3 - 4 defense.

2 @ Baltimore
3 @ NY

If by having Brady's number you mean the Patriots offense sticks with what is NOT working for 60 minutes then yes they have Brady's number.
Can't help but wonder how different this offense would react to different defensive schemes with a Charlie Weis coordinating it.
I put the Jets debacle squarely on the shoulders of Brady and OBrien.

Rush 3 or 4 on 80% of snaps. Man-on-Man with the Cornerbacks. 5 or 6 others in zones across the middle.

The only time the ball moved on the ground was at the end when they sat even further back in the zones.

We needed to run the ball early with Benny and we didn't.
1. Run against that swarm of DBs.

2. Go 3 TE with Welker and Woodhead, and watch Ryan's head explode as he decides which personnel to counter with.

The answer is, NO.

First, we're talking about freakin' Cleveland, when the team mailed it in.

Second, against the Jets Sunday, the Patriots made three huge mistakes early. They went down 14-3.

Let me tell you, if the score was say 7-7, the Patriots would have ripped apart that Ryan defense. He was daring them to run, and the Patriots were not patient enough because they were down. They finally figured it out in the 4th quarter, when it was too late. If they stopped the empty backfield BS in the 3rd quarter, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all.

This is a good topic, and I have a clear opinion on this.
First, the answer is that no one has anyone's number. Every game is different and what works in one game vs a top player and team won't work the next time.

However, this is the fatal flaw I see in the Patriots right now.
The biggest advantage we have against any team we face is that we have Tom Brady and no one else can match that.
Every team we face makes their top priority trying to come up with a way to stop Tom Brady and the passing offense. This means that we are telling every team they must sell out and take whatever gamble and risk they need to in order to take our best weapon. This makes Bradys job more difficult than any QB in the league.
What ends up happening is that it is still very difficult to come up with a game plan to stop Brady. Something like 80% of the time or more, it fails, and the gamble that team took results in the highest scoring offense in the league.
On some occassions the opponent does come up with a great gameplan, and does execute it well.
Since our passing game is SO successful, in almost every game, then when it starts out slow, the smart thing to do is stick with it.
This is compounded by the fact that without a defense that we feel confident can win 17-14 games, it is very difficult to risk abandoning what works, running the ball when the defense dictates it and taking the ball out of the hands of the guy who 80% or more of the time will win you the game.

IMO, BB needs to address this by ramping up the defense, and by committing to the running game.
We will be a MUCH better offense with Brady throwing 30 passes when half of them came when the defense was worried about stopping the run, than Brady throwing 45 passes into a defense that will sell its soul to stop him.
On any given play, Brady is the best there is. If you make him be the best there is on every play, you eliminate the opportunity to throw against a defense that is even slightly concerned with something else.

And by the way, that is why great passing teams do better in the regular season than in the post-season. A good team can create a scheme to attack your greatest strength and have a chance to execute it well too. In a 3 game postseason the chance of running into that once is pretty good.

Maybe you should take over BOBs job and be Belichick's consultant,it appears to me that you think your plan would have won the game

Let's be honest here...no matter what the Patriots had devised in that game the Jets D would have countered it and stopped them...the Jets were not going to lose that game,it was in the cards and Ryan beat the Pats game plan with a massive thump.

Only Sanchez's pathetic passes to the turf instead of wide open receivers kept that game from being a 20+ point win

Next time it might change and BB and his staff plan and perform better.
