Default O-line man Steve Maneri????

Hi all,
Was just reading through some past notes on the games and Steve Maneri's name keeps popping up as a guy who is winning a black shirt for his efforts in practice the previous week. I hate to admit it, but I know nothing about this guy and was wondering what, if anything, you all knew about him. Is he a rookie? Where did he come from? Does he have potential to be more than a scrappy practice team player?

thanks

Okay, So to answer some of my own questions I did some research(what a concept, huh) Former TE who played at Temple, 6'6" 290 lbs. I know BB and DS like those TE conversions because they typically have good feet and move well. I found some pictures of him at Houstons camp, looked like he needed to add some bulk, but has the frame, and it sounds like he has a good work ethic if he is always winning the practice awards.

Project tackle. Who knows what the future holds.

He's apparently never played tackle, so the conversion could be a while.

In Dante's system it is going to be a while.

Consider: He's got a better chance of making it than Neal did. As far as I know, Neal's one of a kind, while there are quite a few tackles in the NFL who started as tight ends (Vollmer is one of them, I believe). I'll never bet against a Coach Scar project. Intriguing guy for the future.

I also read a scouting report about him coming out of college and it said that he was probably the best blocking TE in the draft and that is what he excelled at. At6-6, 290lbs running a 4.8 40, that is something to work with I think.

I have high hopes for him. I'd love see him as the third tackle as early as next season

Just doing a little more reading on the kid and that is spot-on. 6-6 290. He would be a mammoth TE. Sheesh.

More of an athlete than a road grader, seems to fit the model for an OT. Good to see someone young in the mix. If this kid's for real (and his practice effort seems promising), then maybe we don't need to spend a high pick at OT in 2011 or 2012.
