Default A Season for the Ages for the Pats

This has been truly an outstanding season for the Pats -- a Season for the Ages.
--It began with all the talk of contracts outstanding -- Wilfork, Bodden, TBC. BB took care of his own players. At the end of TC, Brady reups for 4 more years. (Indy still has to come to terms with Manning)
--No major free agents signed -- Boldin traded to the Ravens, Marshall to Miami, Jets stealing Holmes and Cro
--The 2010 draft comes and goes -- BB does not draft an impact pass rusher. He is second guessed on McCourty, not taking Dez Bryant. BB criticized for quantity over quality. Bah Humbug! The critics should be lining up to apologize for one of the all time great drafts by ANY team.
--Injuries in training camp -- with Bodden, Ty Warren (remember him), and legions on injured reserve.
--All the attention and oxygen is focused on NYJets and Loudmouth Rex. Under the radar, BB and his staff coach up the rookies and UDFAs.
--The offense begins with an Hall of famer at WR -- who in a mistake for the ages -- talks his way out of the team and out of another contract. All NE and Brady and his bunch do is to adjust and get better by deploying the full range of weapons. A big subtraction becomes a tremendous addition for the Pats.
--An intoxicated Rex hands BB the great Woody. Surely, no Boston team ever got such a gift from a NY team in any sports. Yet, it wasn't a gift. It was superior talent recognition on BB's part and hubris on the part of the Jets.
--NE proceeds to a fairy tale season, led by Brady who is clearly the NFL MVP and who now holds new all-time records for most passes without interception. Led by 2 rookie tight ends who are going to NE cornerstones for years to come..
-- A Defense is coming of age. Imagine when you get back those who are injured.

All in all, a season that is extraordinarily special -- because almost no one saw it coming. And made even more special -- because almost everything achieved this season will be around for the future.

Well done Coaches. Well done NE Pats.

The Pats league-leading 13-2 record has come against opponents in the tough AFC East -- and an extraordinary schedule of opponents including Chargers, Pittsburgh, Chicago on their home turfs and Colts, Vikings, Baltimore and Green Bay at home. Probably, the Pats played the toughest lineup of opponents of any teams this year.

Now, to look ahead ....

Is it really hubris, or was it just downright stupidity on their part?

I think by far the most amazing thing about this season has been all of the adversity this team has overcome. Let me explain (probably obviously):

Our #1 cornerback goes on IR in preseason.
Our best pass rusher goes on IR in preseason.
McGowan goes on IR in preseason.

Things aren't looking so good to start.

Randy Moss starts yapping and ends up getting traded. Most criticize BB for only getting a 3rd round pick for him.

Deion Branch comes back after a few years of being away.

Now out that's just most of the stuff. Faulk went on IR, which might have been a blessing in disguise aka Woodhead. Our kicker also goes on IR. Ugly.

We have to have some sort of record for most undrafted players and rookies playing on our team.

Let's see how we fare in the playoffs. I'm curious how this story will end.

Just some downright stupidity. I think the blame has to fall on Schotty Jr. Woodhead has over 900 yards from scrimmage in about.. 13 games or so for the Patriots? Even if he's behind LT and Greene how can you not find some niche in your offense for Woody? I mean he's a two phase player anyways contributing on both offense and ST.. Big mistake by the Jets, but I'll take it.

An appreciation thread is well-deserved by this team. I've been following the Patriots closely for many, many years and I am amazed but not outright surprised by what BB and his staff has accomplished thus far with so many question marks starting the season. Most of this has been covered very eloquently by other posters here so I won't reiterate them in this post except to say how pleased I was with some proven vets BB brought in for this edition of the patriots.... Gerard Warren and especially Alge Crumpler have been very, very impressive and should be lauded for their leadership to a very young team....

4 SB titles in the decade would be sooooooooooooo sweet! Go Pats!
